you could always make ur own powdered sugar, just throw measured cane sugar into a blender and blend the crap out of it. i wouldnt recommend trying to hold onto homemade powdered sugar for any time period though since sugar is hygroscopic and will pull the moisture right out of the air and it...

the reason alot of people dont use secondaries is because the yeast thats present in the primary fermenter clean up after themselves and will do it faster when there is a high yeast cell count. secondary is for big beers that need 6 months or more of aging or during dry hopping.

did i not read correctly that u added water to top off ur fermenter?

sounds like a case of not mixing well.. when u add water to wort, its surprising difficult to mix into wort thoroughly. i wouldnt worry about it to much, its still going to be beer

if using a large cooler, i would recommend cutting a piece of Styrofoam that fits on the inside over the mash to lower head space and increase heat retention

did u aerate?

lme tends to darken over time, you might want to think about adding the lme late in the boil

im an all grain brewer these days, i didnt take to the extract twang. i would recommend the blood orange hefeweizen, its extract. excellent beer and u can bottle in 10 days (mine was finished and clean on day 7)

+1 on US-05, i picked it up one time because my lhbs was out of notty, never looked back. i just brewed a red rye ale that didnt form a krausen. but the hydrometer tells the tail.

ive dry hopped in my primary and to be honest, i wasnt impressed with the results. i think co2 that was in solution or either the yeast but something drove off all the aroma

i have 1 airlock, and never use it. all 3 of my primaries have blowoff tubes. i mean, why not? id rather have a blowtube, than to have my brew end up on the ceiling

wow id say thats some luck! i *try* to keep a spare tank for mine, but i usually find it empty when i need it lol
