    Judgmental neighbors

So many great responses. Thanks for the awesome feedback. This neighbor is nice for the most part, but she definitely crossed some sort of boundary with that comment. She confides in my wife often and apparently the doctor wants to put her on anti-depressants. I reminded myself of this when it...

    Judgmental neighbors

I had an ok 3 tier, gravity fed system going. Only problem is its along the fence line of my bible thumping neighbor. Last time I brewed she peaked her eye through the crack of the fence, asked what I was doing and after I answered her she said "what great memories your daughter will have."...

    ABV question

I'm not sure why Mr. Papazian is using the 105 figure. I'll have to write and ask him.

    ABV question

    Yeah, (OG-FG)x131=ABV
  6. mtg4772

    ABV question

(Final-original gravity) x 131= ABV. Right? Well according to Charlie Papazians book "joy of home brewing" the multiplication figure is 105. Which is correct? Online calculators seem to be using the 131 figure.

    How would you fix this?

Some shims, rails, and you're good to go.
  8. mtg4772

    How would you fix this?

    1. Put it on a level surface. 2. Put a bubble level on it. 3. Shim it until it is level. Mark where your shims were placed. 4. Measure the shims, get some metal the same measurement as your shim and weld it where you marked it. Too easy and fun.:rockin: I had a similar problem. My keggle...

    Clumpy yeast?

    Clumpy yeast?

From the vial the yeast was clumpy. And after 36 hours in the yeast starter it is still clumpy. Wtf? If the yeast is bad, can I pitch another to save this 5 gallon batch? White labs vial, CA ale yeast, WLP051.

    Fermentation question:

Do u think dry hopping will offset some of the off flavors from the stressed yeast?
  19. mtg4772

    Fermentation question:

I believe the yeast did get stressed and produced off flavors. :( Live and learn. At least I know how to make a yeast starter now.
  20. mtg4772

    Fermentation question:

This batch has been force carbonating for 2 weeks. Is it still too late to dry hop?
