    Honeysuckle experiment

Well I packed a mason jar fairly tightly and topped off with vodka just to cover it. It was a year ago but from what I remember it was packed pretty tight. I read that the method of making a tea with it creates a pungent earthy brown mixture that wasn't good. The vodka smelled and tasted like...

    Honeysuckle experiment

I made the extract but found that it didn't have a strong enough aroma or flavor to impart anything substantial to a beer. Maybe doing the more technical way of capturing the essence would work but that's way too complicated for me Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Propagating from Hop Cuttings

I put it right into the soil after I cut it. I'm afraid if I try gently tugging it I will damage the roots if they are just starting to establish. I'm really in no rush, and this was more of an experiment anyways. Just curious and excited Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Will hops climb deck railing?

I planted my hops last year on the side of my deck by the railing post. Will they climb that or do I need to use twine? Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Propagating from Hop Cuttings

So about a week and a half ago I cut my bull shoot and decided to try to root it. This is right after I cut it And this second picture is now, after a week and a half in soil. Does this mean it has rooted? Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Oak cubes

I have an ipa recipe that my husband and I love so I wanted to try doing a special version. I was thinking of trying a partygyle and aging the first runnings with oak cubes. I've never done a partygyle nor have I used oak cubes. Anyone have suggestions for either? As far as the partygyle, how...

    Propagating from Hop Cuttings

I was told to cut back my "bull" shoot so I figured I'd place it in soil and see what happens since I was cutting it anyways. It's been in soil for 4 days and I still very much alive. Looks promising so far that it'll root. So if you have multiple shoots and can cut some back you could...

Yes rhizomes and cuttings are two different things. I actually just started a thread about this a couple days ago because I'm attempting it as well. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Propagating cuttings

Thanks for the info. I decided to place it in a container with moist soil. Will that work as well, or should I put it back in the water? Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Propagating cuttings

So I had about 7 shoots come up from my second year centennial. Since its best to cut back the "bull shoot" I decided to wait till its leaves opened a little and cut it back to try propagating it. Found this link- http://piedmonthops.com/how-to/root-your-own-cuttings Has anyone attempted...

Thanks yooper, that's really helpful. I've never gone the competition route before so I thought you'd have to be local. Is it legal to ship homebrew? Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Competition

All the ones on the AMA website aren't in my area and those that are in bordering states I've already missed the deadline. Good idea on clubs and local pubs though. Maybe my local homebrew supply store will know of some Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Competition

I live in CT an its not that I'm protective of my recipes but I don't like the idea of someone taking my ideas and selling them as their own. Not that I think I'd actually win, but if I did why should someone else make the money and get the credit for my brew? Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew
