    Is my Starter doomed?

I made a starter last night. It was a 1028 London pack, smack activated first. I put it in roughly 1200 ml of wort, my refractometer read a little under 1.070 before I pitched the yeast. I made sure to aerate before pitching. I had read that it's good to give it a swirl every once in a...

    enormously helpful dude. thanks!

    licorice root amount

Interesting. Yea I'm set on doing .5 oz. The 60 minute idea is definitely interesting, I was kind of thinking 15 minutes. I'll have to think on that/wait for any more info people want to share! I ain't stressing though!

    licorice root amount

There doesn't seem to be a great deal of info on the tronz about this. I found some about licorice stick, but not root. What I have found generally seems like 1/4 - 1/2 oz for 15 minutes will make it present, but not too much. I'll brew and post soon with what I did, and the results...a bit...

    licorice root amount

I'm making a porter, pretty by the books stylisticly. I don't want it to be super pronounced. I have 1 oz of licorice root but am wondering how much I should put in the boil and for how long. I have no idea if I should be thinking 1 tsp, or .5 oz. I'm thinking 15 minutes is good for time...

    Yeast Starter Gravity?

what is the refactometer conversion? I'm just interested in checking my og when I'm adding yeast/during this mini boil

    Yeast Starter Gravity?

Cool. Everything I've read has had the commonality of, "this is essentially a mini batch of beer". So a refactometer would work for it? (I just got one and any jump at any excuse to use it)

    Yeast Starter Gravity?

So I've read several different methods for doing a starter. I'm wondering how I can check/monitor the Specific Gravity of my starter. It seems that there is some simple math to figure out what it should be. However I'm wondering if I can physically check myself, say via hydrometer or...

    Double Pitching Wyeast 1028

I've got in a mini fridge to drop in from 75 downward. I know rapid change in temp isn't a good thing and that it will probably rise again so I think I'm just going to let it get to like 66 -68 and put it back in the closet

    1/2 " or 3/4 # cpvc for manifold

My first attempt at making the braid just came out jenky. Kinda squished at spots and not looking too good by the connection. I dig the idea of the manifold, but definitely have some reservations now on the CPVC

    1/2 " or 3/4 # cpvc for manifold

interesting. I have an SS braid now and am just not digging it. This is interesting, I feel like everyone is all about the CPVC online. Hadn't heard otherwise before

    1/2 " or 3/4 # cpvc for manifold

I have an 11 gallon cooler, 12" x 18". Should I use 1/2 " or 3/4 ". I have a 1/2" bulkhead right now and am also wondering how to connect the manifold to the bulkhead/spigot. Thanks!

    Double Pitching Wyeast 1028

Also...When I first pitched my yeast it was at 77. Hoping I didn't just destroy it, temperature has only gone down since then. Kinda had issues with lack of swelling originally. Just curious. thanks

    Double Pitching Wyeast 1028

I'm wondering what would happen if I pitch an extra packet a few days later if I'm seeing no fermentation. (started at about 1.068) Also, if I did this would I need to aerate the wort again? I need to be patient for a few more days but this is on the back of my mind. Also temperature...it's...

    Wyeast 1028 London Question

it's been sitting at room temp for about 5 hours. Definitely swelled a little bit, but not like I had seen with 1056. Didn't agitate it. Pitching it in like 5 minutes. 1.063 og. doing a toasted coconut vanilla porter. Thanks for the feedback!

    Wyeast 1028 London Question

I bought this yeast roughly 3 weeks ago and am about to use it momentarily. I did the smack activation about 4 hours ago and it appeared to have swelled a little, but no where close to how 1056 has been for me in the past. My question is, has the yeast gone bad/is it not activated? If I go...
