    Choosing Aeration Equipment

I've been wondering about this lately myself and seeing your post reminded me to ask. I've been just stirring up the wort vigorously, or pouring it between 2 buckets prior to pitching. Is that inferior?

How long is too long in the primary?

FWIW - I've forgotten about a couple of beers before, the worst one being like 4 months in primary. It was perfectly fine in the end.

Fruit Beer Sunshower Honey Apple Wheat

Thinking about giving this one a try. Not sure if the brewer is still around, but I'm curious about the apple cleaning process. To make sure they are sanitary going into the fermenter, do you dip them in vodka or something?

Looking to improve mash phase on new brew stand

What's interesting is the stand has wind blocks built in around the burners and each section. I'm assuming the wind is blowing it out when its really low and I look a couple minutes later and its out / I smell gas.

Looking to improve mash phase on new brew stand

Thanks everyone for your insight. I have a couple of options to try. I've always recirculated the entire 1 hr with this setup. The efficiency is pretty awesome doing that. I have tried to keep the burner on real low setting...however the mash either still heats up eventually past my mark or...

Looking to improve mash phase on new brew stand

Any thoughts HBT? Or maybe I'm doomed until I can automate the rig.

Looking to improve mash phase on new brew stand

Let me first say that these were the best purchases I made last year. I've really enjoyed my new kettles (Spike Brewing) and brew stand (Patriot Brew Systems). However, there is one annoying thing I'd like to try and resolve without going full automated. I'd like to get there one day, adding...

    Orange zest kills head ??

I have a somewhat related question to this. I have this Kolsch recipe I'm getting ready to brew, which includes bitter and sweet orange peels. I could only find the bitter ones in my LHBS. Can I substitute orange zest from sweet oranges like Halos in their place? Here's the recipe I was...

    Grain mill cost recovery

A mill is all about convenience and having control over your crush. It's a cost you won't recover, but it is so worth it :)

What system to buy for 2-3K? Tired of tinkering.

Here's my setup. Set me back about $1500 - $2000 total (including stand/pumps/kettles). The mashing stage is a little manual and I'd like to figure a way to improve it. Basically have to fire on the burner for like 2 minutes every 15 minutes. Great stand though and rest of the brewing is a...

Please send me pricing and pickup location. I might be interested depending on that. I live near Phila, PA and I haven't seen an updated group buy in my area.
