    Show us your Kegerator

I actually went to my uncle for cutting the 4 pieces, as I originally just wanted a collar on top, and planned on laying the freezer lid on top of the collar. I live in an apartment and have limited access to tools, and figured he'd be much better to go to since he's works in cabinetry, than the...

    Show us your Kegerator

I still have to add a trip try, cap catcher, and chalkboard paint, but here she is! and first pour. NB Smashing Pumpkin Ale, it was delicious and gone about 2 weeks later.

Fermentation temp recommendation for an Aventinus clone?

Apparently the 2 weeks @ 50 is to get rid of the diacetyl produced from the bottle carbing with speise. It definitely would help with clearing though.

Fermentation temp recommendation for an Aventinus clone?

That's what I figured. I was just surprised to hear they go as high as 72F, although I know they acidify their wort so as to bring out more of a clove flavor. Now all I have to do is get up the courage to do this step decoction BIAB style. I'm also surprised to hear that their conditioning...

Fermentation temp recommendation for an Aventinus clone?

I just spent a few hours looking through "Brewing with Wheat" and putting together an Aventinus clone recipe based on some of the things outlined in the chapter. My intent is to try and harvest some yeast from a few bottles of Aventinus and ferment according to the schedule mentioned in the book...

You know you're a home brewer when?

When in an effort to regulate fermentation temps, you and swmbo walk around in sweats and blankets to keep warm, because your windows are all open in an effort to keep down the ridiculous heat from the steam pipes in the apartment

    Wye doesn't fit regulator

I don't believe so. IIRC it screws in right handed, but then it feels like it gets stuck. And trying to force it just seems to strip the threading. I didn't want to keep trying as I'm afraid of destroying the regulator, but the same thing happened with the replacement wye that arrived.

    Wye doesn't fit regulator

I recently received all my kegging equipment and my keezer is coming along nicely. Just about everything has gone off without a hitch except that my Wye from Kegconnection doesn't seem to fit my regulator from Northern Brewer. Afaik, the wye and regulator connections are standardized and the...

Someone needs to open a CO2 supply on/near the upper east side in NYC

I did find 3 more fire extinguisher places, but 2 don't fill/exchange and the 3rd want $38 for an exchange - which is ridiculous. There is also an indoor paintball place in LI City but they don't fill/exchange co2. For the time being, it looks like I'll be heading to Mckinney's around 6:30am...

Someone needs to open a CO2 supply on/near the upper east side in NYC

Just took the plunge and ordered all my supplies to begin kegging. Chest freezer is on its way and hoping to build a collar this weekend. While shopping for supplies, I figured might as well try and track down a place nearby to fill my co2 tank. Mckinley Welding and Able Fire both fill, but only...

    A German Take on Ffarg/Graff

Thought I would update for those interested. I finally got the courage (and money) to brew my idea for the German Ffarg, although somewhat basic. The ABV wound up being much higher than expected since I forgot to account for the sugar in the apple juice when formulating everything, but brew day...

Brewing Solo, The best thing since sliced bread

Especially with Fall here. You can't beat the cool morning air, while sipping on some coffee. I swear this city will be the end of me if I don't move soon

Brewing Solo, The best thing since sliced bread

I long for the day that I can brew outside. Would love to get up early, head outside with a cup of fresh brewed coffee and a nice cigar, and start my brew day

Overcarbed my beer by about 20g. Not sure if I should degas, or just throw in fridge

Thank you, this is exactly what I was looking for. I was having trouble backing into what the current vol would be given 109g sugar and 4-4.25 gallons of beer.

Overcarbed my beer by about 20g. Not sure if I should degas, or just throw in fridge

I bottled my pumpkin ale over the weekend, and used ~105g of sucrose for priming 5 gallons. When everything was bottled and I was cleaning my bucket, I noticed there was way more trub than usual (thanks to the pumpkin pie mix) and I quickly realized that I bottled closer to 4.25 gallons of beer...

    A German Take on Ffarg/Graff

I guess that makes sense haha. So I'm thinking Munich malt is exactly what I'd be looking for. I'm tempted to just do 4 lbs of Munich LME. But if I did 3lbs Munich LME and 1lb Vienna, would I notice much of a difference in flavor? Also in keeping with the German flavors, would it be better to...

    A German Take on Ffarg/Graff

After traveling to Germany for a week, and thoroughly enjoying the apfelwein and handkase mit musik, I wanted to make something similar to the apfelwein, but with a lot more malt character. I came across Clifton's Ffarg and Brandon O's Graff, but found myself still wanting more German malt...

NB Honey (Not Quite) Brown Ale

Thought I'd update this for those who were curious. It's been about 4 weeks since I bottled and I've been trying "one" beer about every week to follow the aging process. So far the beer tastes pretty awesome and I'm very happy with the result, especially the progress from the week 1 beer. It's...

    First Tattoo

could try a font like these. My preference would be for the first two. May even consider having it translated to gaelic on one of the many forums. If you take that route, though, make sure to wait for multiple translations before going ahead as gaelic is not easily translated word for word like...
