I'm going to stick with what has worked for me from now on

9 days later and time for D-rest. One of the carboys was way ahead of the other. I'm going to transfer to the keg before I go away for 5 days with the dry hops, put it under pressure, then pull the hops when I return. Or maybe just skip the dry hop as I did whirlpool hops too.

How long does your brew day take with your electric systems?

My keg day doesn't take anywhere near 4 hours. And the second brew day? I don't usually have one except I'm dry hopping so I'll be doing an extra transfer.

How long does your brew day take with your electric systems?

The mash is the only time during the process one can walk away as there is no flame/coil involved. I usually reserve it for some kind of errand.

I'm going to stick with what has worked for me from now on

Crisp recipe I used I can't say how close it is because this is the first try for me. My pipeline is one at a time, from brewday to kicking the keg. I don't have room for any more than that.

I'm going to stick with what has worked for me from now on

That's where I was yesterday. And dinner was take-out! And again, having a glass carboy to let it settle allows vision into what you are doing too. Conicals should have a glass panel to let you see, but I'm sure that increases the cost of an already expensive item. But I shouldn't complain...

I'm going to stick with what has worked for me from now on

I suppose I could but I tend to either boil or sanitize everything. And that would require a trip to the store.

I'm going to stick with what has worked for me from now on

The problem was always that my kettle has a probe that sticks out and I never could get a good whirlpool. I did just put the hops in and gave a stir. The joint compound mixer was cheap so I didn't invest much in it. It worked so well when I tested it out with my existing mixer that I was...

How long does your brew day take with your electric systems?

I brewed today for the first time since originally posting this and it took 6.5-7 hours beginning to end. Part of the extra time over the usual 6 for me was that I had some whirlpool hops in the recipe, which adds time at the end. I then ran the immersion chiller but that was quick because the...

I'm going to stick with what has worked for me from now on

I guess I always just found that letting it settle in a capped, clear carboy was a better option than having it settle in the open kettle where I can't see anything. I can then direct the siphon accordingly. And that's a question I have, if you have a conical fermentor where you can drop the...

I'm going to stick with what has worked for me from now on

I made my first batch in about a year today and tried a few new things for me. First the recipe called for whirlpool/steeping hops, so I added those. I had bought a joint compound mixer to use for whirlpooling yesterday after testing out the mixer I actually used for drywalling in an old...

Need a replacement for my beer fridge

Did my first batch today after getting this fridge and aside from all the little problems, the very last thing was that the door wouldn't close. I could force it closed but it would pop open again. I'm guessing when I measured with my Better Bottles inside they were empty so the door would stay...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

doing my first brew in a long time on Thursday. I made the starter today.

    Starter temps?

I checked and the temp is closer to 60, but probably colder overnight. The starter is made and on the stir plate and a slight krausen has already formed. And even though I haven't used the stir plate in a year now, the stir bar took on the first try. I must have left it at the perfect speed...

BeerSmith 2.3.7 does not work on Big Sur :(

I upgraded to the latest version and I think that gives me access to the web version too. I put in a new recipe and it worked fine on the Mac version. While I'm sure there are new features I mostly use it in a basic fashion. Recipe, timer, shopping list. I'll put in the basic hydrometer...

    Starter temps?

Thanks. I didn't think it would be a problem, I just want to make sure it is done when I'm ready to brew and doesn't lag for a few days.

    Starter temps?

If I'm making a 2L starter with Omega German Lager 1, what can the minimum temp be? I usually do it at 68 or so but the room where I want to do this is more like 55 at the moment. I'll be using Propper starter wort. I assume I should bring that up to pitch temp too. My house has changed so...

What do you use when you squeeze BIAB?

I use the storage bin for my equipment with an inverted stainless bowl and a cookie sheet angled down from the bowl inside the bin. I put the bag at the top of the cookie sheet and use a pot lid to press down. The wort collects in the bin and I then pour it all back into the pot. The wort...

What is your new 2022 go to beverage gonna be?

I'm thinking 8 days on the bike, but it may be 9 or 10. It really depends on my wife joining me and how much she can do in one day. She isn't a cyclist. I'm also getting old (67) and I need to take this into account. When I was even 60 I wouldn't have given it a thought but everything is...

Any reason to NOT use a stir plate to break up yeast before pitching?

I usually decant but leave some liquid behind and put it back on the stir plate and it loosens it up pretty well. It might take more than a few minutes but it always comes loose. Using a loose magnet to move the stir bar around sounds like a good idea too.

What is your new 2022 go to beverage gonna be?

I'm planning on doing the ride on my own in August, going from Buffalo to NYC. I'll be doing it credit card style, with hotels and restaurants, so there is no need to carry all that heavy stuff, just some clothes and bike equipment/tools, and maybe a lightweight computer. I'll probably pack...
