NEIPA and the bottom of the keg

NEIPA has no more sediment than most beers so it's not an issue like already mentioned. I use this when hopping in the keg. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y2F4BMY/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 Another option which I have not tried is this, you can free hop in keg. You can pre-order. I am...

Is 1 L too big for vitality starter?

I have revived year old slurry with a "half strength" starter on a stir plate. Then chill, decant, and do "real" starter. While likely overkill, I just do 2L starters for every batch. I fill a yeast tube with the yeast from the starter to save, then the rest goes to the beer. I've used my Voss...

    Critique My Recipe

Mine initially looked like that.. But after about 1 month the keg started pouring just shy of brilliant beer. Ironically my wheat beer with TYB Midwestern Ale Yeast which was brewed, kegged, and consumed in the same time frame looked the same from start to finish... Nice and cloudy

    Critique My Recipe

I so have made a couple attempts at a low bitter / high aroma NEIPA, but have fallen short on the aroma department. The beers tasted great though. So being my 3rd attempt, I decided to go all in. I am going for a NEIPA style in essence, but someone may better classify the beer. My prior recipes...

    Blackberry Confusion

So I have never done mead before. Is it less oxygen sensitive than beer? This recipe sounds good, I may have to give it a try.

    new to biab equipment question

BIAB is kinda fun. That's my current go to until / if I decide to get 3 vessel system. Your LBS will have a mill, so unless you plan to buy in bulk and store the uncrushed grains, then no mill is needed. I don't have a false bottom, but for BIAB I use a stainless mesh tube to prevent clogging or...

OOPS i left my element on

If its still heating then you are probably good. I would just soak in PBW or something to try and clean the scorched element. Bar keepers friend is probably what I would use for the stubborn scale. I wonder if vinegar soak would help?

Help, I've made a monster. First timer concern's.

Well if there are bubbles, then it is likely starting to ferment. There is no harm in pitching the rest of the yeast. There will always be sediment with anything that ferments so no worries there. Like others stated the yeast may stall out, but at this point you need to be patient and let it...

Help, I've made a monster. First timer concern's.

When you ask these questions, it would help if people were able to know what your process was or wasn't. By the sound of things you threw honey into a carboy, topped it off with juice, didn't mix anything and added yeast. Tell us exactly what you did up until this point. We can't answer...

Help, I've made a monster. First timer concern's.

The apple juice may be a problem if it has preservatives in terms of yeast activity. It seems the run before you can walk thing may bite you on this one...

    Compliment & a complaint

Cool story bra! But for real I upgraded kegging after 2 or 3 batches of bottling. Never looking back!

Need some expertise (is my beer alcoholic?!)

I know you said you don't want to do extract brewing, but honestly I think you should. Yes you can start all grain, but will stuggle with your setup. With extract you can brew good beer in a small apartment. I did about 12 extract batches before going to all grain. I learned ALOT and refined my...

Need some expertise (is my beer alcoholic?!)

I guess the spirit of my comment would be that topping off with water almost 1:1 will still have big effect on gravity, unless used WAY more grains to get a more concentrated wort. 12lbs is not enough to make a wort concentrated enough to top off 1:1 and still meet gravity. I routinely top off...

Need some expertise (is my beer alcoholic?!)

You sure your LBS milled your grains? You brew shop may have collected the ingredients for you, but lots of people don't grind their grains until brewday to keep it fresh. Was there husks, broken up grain, and some flour present at the bottom of the bag? To little crush will screw your...

Pros and cons of "fast ferment" ?

Something like the SSBrewtech Brew Bucket would be my first choice as it also has temperature control options. Second would be Anvil Fermenter which just added temp control options. Sovereign Fermenter is a good one, that's what I currently use. You can adapt the Anvil's cooling coil for this...

Any suggestions- Catalyst vs SS Brew Bucket

I have both the Catalyst and the Sovereign stainless fermenter (similar to SS Brew Bucket, Anvil fermenter). To be honest I don't use my Catalyst anymore. I am 100% bucket fan. Catalyst: It has only 6 gallons and every batch results in blowoff from low headspace. It's plastic so scratches...
