New Homebrew Club in Jo Co, KS

Cool to hear. We have been slowly starting a club as well. We are the Midwest Band of Brewers (on facebook) and are also located here in JOCO. We started out as several guys brewing on a one barrel system and have grown so much that we are working on forming a Co-OP. There are about 15...

    How we sour Mash

I thing o2 is more of a problem than heat. I would be tempted to say sour the wort in a 5 g carboy if you cant really seal off the mash. A corney would be great for a mash.

    How we sour Mash

I made a photo book of how we did our sour mash. It was quite successful. Can't wait to taste the finished beer. https://berlinerweissesourmash.shutterfly.com/ We mashed in a milk can placed into a water bath. Then held 120 f with a heat lamp for two days after a flush of co2.

Any feedback on the Captain Crush Grain Mill?

I did but it has not shown up

Chillzilla as a HERMS and loving it.

You are correct, we use a totally separate tank for the herms water. The first sparge water in is at 200 only to help raise the temp faster. The second one is at 168. The tun never gets warmer than 168. What you are talking about doing makes sense to me.

Chillzilla as a HERMS and loving it.

Yep batch sparge in three steps. Empty the tun, add 200 degree water circulate and dump, add 168 water circulate and dump. Neither water tank is used for step mash. Thats all done with the herms. Im just using one tank to make getting up to mash out faster. We had a similar problem...

Chillzilla as a HERMS and loving it.

The RIMS thermocouple is at the wort output of the heat exchanger (chillzilla CFC) I am only running 20 amps of 240v, so going from winter ground water to strike temp for a 1 barrel brew takes about an hour. The step mashes we have done do take a little longer than I would like. I plan in...

Chillzilla as a HERMS and loving it.

Last fall I ruined a wheat with my RIMS system. We had two systems running together in the garage. On was running RIMS the other was not. Identical recipe. The RIMS system started to smell horrible. We ended up trashing the beer. When the heating element was removed it was covered in...

Any feedback on the Captain Crush Grain Mill?

I did do this and have no complaints with NB they tried to help and then sent another mill quickly. It did exactly the same thing. I personally believe there is a design flaw some where that they will just need to find.

Any feedback on the Captain Crush Grain Mill?

At any rate it's not working well at all when you want to do 100 lb at a time. I think we are going to get a crankandstein.

Any feedback on the Captain Crush Grain Mill?

I am having lots of problems with our clubs new Captain Crush. This is the second one. When the first one Refused to feed we just assumed it was a defective mill. Mainly because the design quality seems so good. New mill is in and attached to our 180 RPM gear motor. 77 lb to grind and the...

How do you clean your brew rack

I am thinking of hard plumbing my rack. Currently it has silicone hoses and cam locks. I like the idea of not moving around hoses when I want to chill or sparge .....ect. Is just running PBW for 15 min adequate, or what do you all do? How do you leave the system. Thanks
