    Non-electric pump recommendations?

if you are determined to be free of the wall, your best bet is going to be a diaphragm pump. It will also likely be air powered, though you may get lucky and get one with a manual pump. They are used extensively in chemical handling and processing including industrial size washing machines...

    Screwed up welding

I agree, polish the schit out of it with a scotchbrite pad and follow up with a strong acid wash. Well polished will help a lot. Dont use any carbon steel wool or equiv. The carbon steel will embed in the ss.

    pros and cons bottling/kegging

Ur gonna love kegging! Cleaning that bugger isn't too bad, using one of the good cleaners like PBW, Oxyclean, or SUN (Walmart) which attack the organic materials and follow with sanitizer. Just like cleaning a carboy, only you cant see as much.

Any reason NOT to use my MLT cooler as a bottling bucket?

Just use one of your cornys as a bottle bucket. Vent the lid and pull a vacuum on a siphon hose and you are in buidness.

    I just made things harder

I always have a flat one on kegging day! or two if i'm out of beer.

    Whirlpooling with Immersion Chiller?

I'm not going to suggest that it wont make good beer, because i haven't tried it and you clearly have... but i suggest gently moving the ic because i perceive that it will cause less opportunity for oxidation by waiting until temp is below 80 degrees to get a good whirlpool. At its heart we are...

How easy is filling commercial (Sanke) kegs?

Don't forget to jam something in by the ball to vent the barrel, even if you vented it to zero pressure with your tap. Temp change will create enough pressure to surprise you.

    How intense should I clean?

You should be cleaning the same way for every batch... oxyclean/pbw/dishwasher cleaner to dissolve and breakdown solids and organic material. If there is skudge on stuff, no amount of any disenfectant other than heat will kill the nasties. Follow with your sanitizer of choice ie onestep or...

    Whirlpooling with Immersion Chiller?

Yes, Moving the IC is almost necessary for good heat transfer. you will use 50% less water by gently moving the IC around in the pot because the greatest heat transfer takes place with the largest Delta T. When undisturbed, the heated water around the coils insulate the cold water from the hot...

    Root beer barrel?

Ya, if you like root beer flavored brew, then by all means, cause you will never get it out..... i would make an assload of root beer though, because that thing is way to cool to waste!

    What To Clean It With

Stainless is popular because it is easy! I have been using Sun a knockoff Walmart brand oxyclean which works very well. no scrubbing! have also used diswasher detergent, and the Farm fleet branded milkhouse cleaners for dairy farms... that stuff really melts away the crap! though its use...

Anyone recommend a good intro keg kit?

Just my $.02 but having just started kegging, and fresh experience. I would buy a double gauge regulator and the necessary equipment to tap one keg only. unless you have the cash laying around. Once it is carbed up, i can dispense most of a keg by only re connecting the tank once or twice, so...

    Rookie racking cane question

I would buy a ss cane just because they are only 15 bucks locally, however the aluminum would work fine as well. Its not like the beer is going to be in contact with the cane for more than a minute or two anyhow.... ever drink a beer from an aluminum can?.. I think you will be fine.

Using a WinPak as a fermenter

Another option for the air vent/dip tube assembly is Colder products Drumquick pro. Prohibition era bootleg hops!

So I was discussing growing hops with my brother, and he tells me that he found hops growing untended on his father-in-laws farmette. After some discussion it turns out that in the 20's and 30's the parcel was used as a produce farm for fruit, berries, asparagus, and other stuff..... and...

    O ring application guides

Softer 70 durometer buna, soft silicone and other soft materiels will seal better in a low pressure environment found in corny kegs. Especially when dealing with bent and ill fitting lids.

    O ring application guides

Buna is a wonderful material, however i can tell you from 15yrs experience in the hydraulic industry that although buna will seal for 300 hours at the 149 you referenced. I can guarantee that the test was not conducted during heat cool and disassembly cycles. Buna begins to harden at 149...
