    wyeast 1968 'hybrid' propagation

When I received my initial smack pack, it was a bit dated, and was not enough for my batch. To be expected. A single starter step was barely sufficient, said yeastcalc. After reading various threads concerning washing/propagation, I did a step up starter, yielding 2x required for my batch. After...

    ferment temp issues

First question would be, what yeast strain are you using? Different strains like different temps.

    ferment temp issues

No. The fact the airlock isn't bubbling, only means it isn't bubbling. The only true measure of fermentation is by hydrometer reading.

WHAT in the bloody name of HELL is this?!?!

At this point, HIDE the instructions. The yeast are in control, and they don't read. ;)

What did you learn this week?

^ Did it last night, in small scale, when I made starter wort. It worked quite well.

Lessons learned with your first brew?

Mostly ignore kit instructions. Make as it should be made, not how the kit demands.

They got in my airlock last batch, too. Their last gasp was Starsan. ;)

    Krausen question.

It was simple physics in action. When you removed the airlock, you released pressure from the vessel. Pressurized bubbles popped.

What beer, homebrew or commercial got you into crafts

Bitburger. I came back from Germany, and discovered American beer mainly tasted like water.

    Help on designing a recipe?

+1 ^ Get used to brewing first. Learn. Ask questions of others. Read. Do a few, or several, kits. From personal experience, be patient. And, don't give up. Bad batches happen. :)

Will yeasts regulate there own temperature?

^ +1 If needed, do the research. Find out where you're yeast strain does best, then do your best to allow it to happen. The yeast will do better, and you'll be happier with the results.
