Why is beer infinitely better after work?

i look at work like a marathon. the whole day is the running, and you have you're eyes on the finish line. That beer as soon as i get home is my finish line, and it is a beautiful thing when all your hard work is rewarded by crossing that finish.

    Traveling to Dayton, Ohio

Belmont is about 5 miles from the hotel, so it shouldn't be hard to find. The website is pretty sweet. I've never seen a beer store actually list and have info on the beers they carry. It'll give me something to look forward to while I'm stuck in the classroom learning Solidworks for a week. Now...

    Traveling to Dayton, Ohio

Gonna be in Dayton for a week in early December. Can any of you Ohioans tell me where to find a decent retail beer selection? I'm not sure about OH, but i know here in TN, to buy any beer over 6% ABV, you have to go to the liquor store (crazy bible belt laws, and that's the least of them). Does...

Don't go to Buffalo Wild Wings

I work at the Tennessee plant of Advanced Composites. I gotta travel up to the Ohio plant every couple of months. They're over by the mama Rosa's pizza factory. We stay down in troy just because there is a beer joint (BWW) within staggering distance from the hotel.

Don't go to Buffalo Wild Wings

I've only been truly impressed with one BWW, and that is the one I go to in Troy, OH while i'm on business trips up in Sidney. The first time i went in and looked at their tap lineup, i was blown away by the choices. I got to talking to the guy at the bar, and he is a huge beer lover and tries...

Which online homebrew shops accept PayPal?

i gotta give a +1 to Rebel Brewer. Great guys if you're local and can go talk, Tom used to brew professionally and is a competition judge. If you stop by on a Saturday, you might catch them doing a little "quality control" (sampling each others beers)

Help on avoiding boil overs with 7.5 gallon kettle

Until the hot break is over, stay close by with a stir spoon. If it starts foaming up too much, lower the gas for a second and whirlpool the wort. As soon as it goes down, you can kick the gas back up. It will only do that a few times before the hot break is done with. Just keep an eye out when...

    Old wort for a starter???

I had a little less than a gallon left of wort after sparging to boil volume from last time i brewed. I've had it saved in a sealed jug in the fridge, and it hasn't spoiled yet. The last batch was a belgian blonde. Do you think any of those flavors would transfer over if i made a starter out of...

    30qt pot and burner deal...

I use a 7.5 gallon pot for my full boils. They are super full, but if you are diligent with the gas control knob and a stir spoon, you'll be fine. Once the hot break is done, its smooth sailing from there. I've had a 50 dollar bass pro gift card burning a hole in my pocket since summer, but my...

    Can I age a beer for 19yrs??

i gotta say, for 19 years, that is a long long time....i vote with whiskey, but it takes 4 to 6 generations of a good sour mash to get things tasting where you want them to taste.....or so i'm told........

2010 Sierra Nevada N. Hemisphere HARVEST

I had several of the 2009 vintage Harvest (northern hemisphere), and have been waiting for the 2010. I'm glad to see that it is out now, and the beer store will be the first stop on the way home today. I also had the first two 30th anniversary brews from SN, and the stout was delicious. The...

Lincoln NR-211-MP Flux Core wire suitable for welding stainless?

flux core welders aren't the best for welding stainless. i've seen a few that are capable, but the welds look pretty rough. TIG welding is where you want to go, but it is an expensive piece of equipment, and difficult to master on thin walled vessels. MIG welders with 100 % argon shielding gas...

Belgian Blond Ale SWMBO Slayer - Belgian Blonde

I used a vial of white labs Belgian wit, in a 1 qt starter. In the starter I had 4 cups water and 3/4 cup extra light dme. After it finished bubbling, I cold crashed it in the fridge and when ready to pitch, just poured off almost all the liquid and threw the room temp slurry in. I pitched at...

Belgian Blond Ale SWMBO Slayer - Belgian Blonde

Brewed this guy as my first AG brew last Tuesday. I didn't have a large yeast cake to put it on, so I made a starter a few days before hand. SG came out to 1.054. I was impressed with myself, and reading everyone's advice on this board helped prepare me for almost everything. I didn't read far...
