    I did not make up this recipe but i tryed it and its great for a partial mash..If you have not graduated into all grain yet this is a great partial mash recipe if you like "duvel" I mashed for 90 mins at 148F..boiled for 90 mins and added the DME and candi sugar at the end of boil to minimize...

    Hello everyone I just took a gravity sample from my batch..It was 1077 now its 1020..i know i still have some time,seeing its a pretty big beer and the yeast has not dropped yet..Can i just put some foil over this sample and use it to moniter my attenuation? so i do not have to take another...

    DUVAL is my favorite beer.. but this beer caused not only me but my wallet have to go to AA..but if you got the $$$$ drink duvel...just be careful duval means devil..the easy drinkability can get you in trouble quick..so treat with respect and enjoy.:mug:

    Bottle it and prank your friends with it ..tell them its a tasty fresh beer..JK..if it smells sour i would toss it..but bottle and carb it up first , give it a go before you dump..you never know it might turn out ok and you can brag about the year old vintage haha..cheers

    oh yeah... if you use dry yeast then a starter is not needed

    yes ..you want the yeast to dominate your wort rapidly so your batch can be up and running with little lag time and less chance of infection..a starter will produce better beer..I myself will NEVER brew beer without a starter...cheers

    still airlock activity after a week

    its a belgian style using wyeast belgian strong 1388..so im expecting it to be going for awile..just worried i underpitched cause it was an OG of 1077 and i only used one smack pack and made a half gallon starter.

    I have brewed a few batches but i never had the airlock this active after a week..I was actually worried that i underpitched and did not expect to see this much activity...Is it common for alot of activity a week after pitching? It would not be active if i underpitched right? thanks

    Cool man..your right, it is fun to just throw things together..It will be sick if my brew turns out like duvel (aint gonna happen)..either way it will be happy if its drinkable..its all fun..cheers
