I've got the same FB and it's awesome. From Nor Cal brewing solutions. Highly recommended. Dip tube just slips through a hole in the FB, no mechanical connection.

Missouri Plate Chiller, Counterflow Chiller, CIP ball

Here are a few more pics of the plate chiller, by request. Note: The blue in the picture is teflon tape around the bushings. The dark color around the ports is not rust, I think it's just discoloration from brazing it together. The innards are clean and dry. It has been pbw'd, acid...

    Cavitation problems

Yeah it's pretty hard to pump boiling water through a march pump without it cavitating. After all, your water is turning into a gas at that point. Been there done that. But to answer your question, what I did when I was using a counterflow was to recirculate through while I was heating from...

Anyone use a Tri Clamp Sight Glass on Their Fermenter?

So I just brewed a tasty blonde ale and put it in my new Brewhemoth. First time I have used it. Brew day went perfectly. Got my cool wort in the fermenter, and wouldn't you know it, my sight glass is leaking, slowly. Guess I should have leak tested first :cross: Anyway I tightened it up and...

Missouri Plate Chiller, Counterflow Chiller, CIP ball

Counterflow chiller sold to vsanchez Plate chiller and CIP ball still available. FYI on plate chiller: it has 3/4 female pipe threads x 4. No garden hose threads. For another $10, I will supply 4 bushings to convert to 1/2" female NPT (if you bought all this from the website it would be about...

Missouri Plate Chiller, Counterflow Chiller, CIP ball

I used the counter flow about 4 times. It will flow fine with gravity, you just have to make sure it is sealed well so you don't suck in air or you will lose your siphon (if you are using a racking cane). I'd recommend putting some 1/4" compression fittings on and then some hose barbs. Otherwise...

Missouri Plate Chiller, Counterflow Chiller, CIP ball

Few things I'd like to get rid of: 1. Stainless CIP ball from brewers hardware.com. 2" ball installed in a 4" tri-clamp fitting. Connect to it with a 1/1.5" tri-clamp. Perfect for conical fermenter with a 4" opening. It's brand new, never been used. Asking $60.00 ($5 cheaper than I paid and...

    Blichmann Kettle Heating Element Position

Measurement would be great if not too much trouble. Thanks!

    Blichmann Kettle Heating Element Position

I plan on welding a 1/1.5" sanitary ferrule and using this: I would probably use this: http://www.brewershardware.com/TC15F10NPSCOV.html for the electrical connection, so I'd weld a triclamp ferrule to the pot. I guess what I really need to know is, how far up the side does the...

    Blichmann Kettle Heating Element Position

Does anyone know what the lowest possible position one could put a 4500 watt ripple element in a blichmann kettle is? What I am really after is the minimum water level above the bottom of the pot to have the element just submerged. I'm guessing about 1.5-1.75 inches. I have an idea for a new...

    input on CIP nozzle options

Question for you guys that use the McMaster rotating nozzle. The website lists the threads as British pipe threads. Are you using a special adapter, re-threading it to 1/2" npt, or just "making it fit :D" ? Also I'd like to weigh in on the pumps. I'm not sure the pump PSI rating is so...

Yeast starter - Airlock or foil?

To add my .02 to the above: not only is air infection risk, but oxidation as well. As I understand it, you want oxygen in the beginning while the yeast are propagating. The yeast use it up during this stage. Later, when the yeast finish multiplying, it isn't necessary. Not only that, if there...

Yeast starter - Airlock or foil?

I've never made a yeast starter for beer, but my next batch I will. I plan to use cheese cloth soaked in iodine solution held on to the flask with a rubber band. When I made grape wine in the past, I covered my primary fermenter (a rubbermaid trash can) with steel screen material (for...
