    Failed 5 Gallon Ale Cider

Since the original post, I have either consumed or saved in containers for later ~3.5 gallons of the potassium sorbate containing cider. That left ~1.5 gallons of fluid, which contained potassium sorbate and a large amount of added sugar. I recently added ~3.5 gallons of cheap apple juice...

    Failed 5 Gallon Ale Cider

I plan to mull the cider and then spike it with hard alcohol. In previous batches, I had been buying cold-pasteurized orchard cider (not juice) from a nearby farmer's market. I became accustomed to that and forgot to check the ingredients when I bought my cider from the grocery store. Yup, I...

What is the stuff that floats on top called?

Hmm, I used canned pumpkin mash...then I cooked it with other ingredients...and put the entire thing in the fermenting vessel before adding the cider. I diligently sanitized everything at every step.

What is the stuff that floats on top called?

Sorry about that last post... I believe krausen is the term I was looking for. Thanks WI_Wino!

What is the stuff that floats on top called?

Hmm, it is definitely not pellicle. It is very clearly floating pumpkin (plus some spices that I used in the recipe). I am familiar with krausen, but I seem to remember another term related to krausen that is specifically for the floating part... Of course I could be wrong... Thanks for all...

What is the stuff that floats on top called?

I am certain that this question has been asked and answered before. In fact I saw it once on this website, but I can not seem to find it again... I am currently brewing a pumpkin cider. A significant amount of the pumpkin has floated to the top. I was wondering, what are the technical terms...
