    Specific gravity help...

Brewed Black IPA on 9/21. OG=1.075. Dry hopped and moved to secondary on 9/30. Gravity reading of 1.015 on 9/30. Airlock picked up a bit after transfer to secondary. Continued fermentation till 10/6 (no activity in airlock). Did not take a gravity reading. Cold crashed from 10/6 to 10/12...

    Double Imperial Black IPA help..

Alright have a few questions. I only ended up getting 1.075 OG (62% efficiency) poor first batch sparge attempt. Anyhow, I left it in the primary for 9 days. It was at 1.015 when I moved to secondary. Dry hopped on day 9 then moved to secondary. We are on day 12. How long is too long to dry...

    Fermentation temp issue.

Thanks for the responses. I taped the probe to the carboy. I have fermented in a smaller chest freezer and it seems to hold temps much better. Just working out all the qwerks. I managed to already burn up the heater. Anyone just wrap a light bulb in foil and use that for a heater?

    Fermentation temp issue.

I am brewing a 4 gallon double black ipa. Got a new stand up freezer and inkbird for fermentation chamber. Ran into an issue last night. Woke up and temp of wort was low 60s. Still had some co2 release from blow off. Moved temp probe from 750 ml wine bottle to a 1 gal glass carboy and placed...

    Double Imperial Black IPA help..

Going to do a 3 gallon batch of a Black DIPA. Posted ingredients below, however this is for a 5 gallon batch. The recipe states beware of wort loss due to all the hops. My question is do you think I should calculate grain bill for 4 gallons due to wort loss and efficiency or do you think 3...

    6 Gal recipe??

Tastes really good! Just trying to get that abv up a touch. It's like 5.9 right now and should be closer to 6.6. Yea I hate opening them. I made it quick to take a pic. Plus I'm hoping the tape will help with what little co2 release is still occurring

    6 Gal recipe??

So I just checked it again. From Monday to today is has dropped .01 from 1.020 to 1.019. I can still see a small bubble every couple seconds. I am in a leaky bucket so I duck taped the lid on and think I'm going to let it sit another 5 days or so. Do you think it would be better to ferment at...

    6 Gal recipe??

11 days into fermentation. Got hydrometer reading of 1.020 down from 1.064. Could still see minimal action going on. Think I should add dry yeast or see if it hits target?

    First Recipe from scratch(ish)

Thanks for the response. Why is the 30 min Amarillo addition a waste? AA not high enough to be considered a flavoring hop? I'm still relatively new and still have a lot to learn about hop additions.

    First Recipe from scratch(ish)

I decided Sunday afternoon at the last minute I would brew Monday. Got to the brew store about 20 minutes before they closed. Had a recipe I found online, however the homebrew store was wiped. This resulting in me piecing together most of my own ingredients. Take a look at this recipe and...

    6 Gal recipe??

Another question. I pitched w1056. First time I haven't used white labs. I noticed on the back of the slap pack it says ferments up to 1.060. OG of the red was 1.064. Think I will be ok? Did not use a starter. Total volume was ~5.25 gallons

    6 Gal recipe??

Why yes, yes I do. This is what I plan on brewing Friday.. I am confused as whether to just stick with the recipe or adjust grain bill for 5 gallons. https://www.homebrewersassociation.org/homebrew-recipe/evil-twin/

    6 Gal recipe??

I am see recipes for a lot of 6 gallon batches out there. I have a set up where I am filling 5 gallon corny kegs (like most I imagine). What's up with the 6 gallon batches? Folks bottling a gallon? This doesn't have anything to do with pre-boil volume does it? Do most typically alter the 6...

    Where to Buy Gear?

Brew international has reasonable prices. They are out of Kansas or somewhere in that general vicinity. From what I have gathered they do a lot to keep overhead down and their prices reflect that.
