What I did for beer today

Last night I bottled off the remains of two kegs and a gallon of wild cider, washed 4 kegs, and kegged my cider and cyser. Time to update the signature!

I absolutely love and applaud your reckless scientific abandon! :tank::bravo: Oh, and my daughter votes for My Little Pony on the next batch of balloons...

Oxyclean w/ blue pellets safe for homemade pbw?

I think you're going to be better off with the OxiClean Free...there's no perfumes or fragrances, just a "plain vanilla" peroxide based cleaner. I suspect that those blue bits are fragrance/perfume bits. From what I read briefly online the actual active ingredients are the same as the Free...

    "Stirstarter" stir plate

I don't use nearly as much liquid yeast as I used to, but every year I do a 4 L starter of WLP 775 for my cider/cyser and my Stirstarter plate that my cousin got me for Christmas a number of years ago does the job just fine.

Help me become a beer geek!

If you were comparing an IPA from the states with a British IPA, they're likely to be only marginally related taste wise! This is a function not only of the multiplicity of IPA substyles found in the US (East Coast, West Coast, New England IPA, White IPA, Black IPA, Brown IPA.......and a...

    Vanilla paste and ground cinnamon

You can add them at any time after fermentation is finished. If you add them during primary, some of the aroma will get blown off. When it comes to spices, the fresher the better, but I'm sure what you have will be fine. You could add directly, but I have taken to using some sort of spirit...

    12 Beers of Christmas 2017

$128 sounds about right...I think it may have been a little lower for me most of the years I did the trade but I don't think we ever achieved a full cadre of brewers previously....

    12 Beers of Christmas 2017

Wow, I'm jealous...miss not participating in this annual tradition! BTW, for those of you who commented about being worried the contents giving themselves away, don't worry (as long as you've packed them tightly); they will be fine.

Malt extract vs. full grain - which do you choose and why?

I think everyone has nailed it on the head with increased control over all grain vs simplicity (and speed) when using extract. All grain is cheaper (for the ingredients), but there's increased equipment overhead initially. Like @soccerdad, the main thing with extract for me is that I...

How to do gravity on Mead.

Yes. It doesn't matter when the fermentables were added... Just add the measured 10 points to your initial OG.
