Easy Stovetop All-Grain Brewing (with pics)

Theoretically that should work. I wouldn't add any of the last runnings with less than 10 minutes left. I would lower the flame to try and minimize evaporation loss. I often start with 6.25 g to finish with 5.25g in the Fermenter on a 60 min boil. Keep a pound or two of dme around in case your...

Pouring new batch of beer onto old yeast cake?

If you are using dry yeast just use a new pack or two. The stuff is too cheap to take any chances. I only wash yeast when I want to keep using a seasonal strain that's out of season.

difference in results with dry malt extract and liquid (syrup)

You get about 15% mote sugar pet pound in dry versus liquid, aka less water means more sugar. LME is cheaper because it takes less manufacturing due to drying but is is also more prone to scorching on the bottom of the pot where DME just poofs into a cooing and coats your house with a fine...

ABV too low, can i raise after fermenting?

That seems low for your OG. Did you do a partial boil with extract then add some top off water? Did you mix in the top off water well?

    Out of control fermentation... Help!

I have heard stories of airlocks getting plugged up, pressurizing the Carboy, and the Carboy breaking. That would suck. I have some 1" hose I use or sometimes I just use a wet dish rag over the top. Don't let it pressurize. Weirdly batches where this has happened to me normally turn out tasting...

Can I use Sodastream Plastic bottles?

Just reuse soda bottles and priming sugar. Plus if you make a stout or porter and leave the coke label on the bottle you can take it places cause people just think it's soda

HELP! Force carbonated then bottled but still to low

Sadly, I bottled the whole 5 gallons. I guess I did not shake well enough, or my regulator is reading the wrong pressure. Plus the bottles were warm from the dishwasher still when i bottled so maybe this is some of my problem. I am going with option 1 though and my lack of shaking. Normally...

Force carbing 2 kegs at same time

Shake with the gas connected, get a QD and another Force carbonating line so when you do get beer in the line, and you will eventually, you can just rinse it right out and your primary line does not have beer juice in it. Well worth the $30

HELP! Force carbonated then bottled but still to low

Ok here is my drama... I made an oatmeal stout a few weeks back, 2 weeks in primary then straight to keg. Let it sit in keg for a week at 45 degrees and then hooked up to the CO2 tank and force carbonated (or so I thought) at 13 psi and shook it for a couple minutes. A couple days later I set...

    Couple post-brew questions

I made a HLT from a 5 g home depot cooler. I add about 5 degrees to my sparge desired temp and heat this while mashing. I only lose a degree or two in time it takes to fully sparge when all is said and done.

    More krausen in AG?

I have done 7 AG batches and 35 extract batches and think I may be noticing a pattern... Typically i will do an extract batch while mashing/sparging. in my AG batches the krausen ring is much thicker than in the extract batches when using the same yeast. (Washed yeast for both from prior batch...

    First Starter Problems/Questions

I did shake the crap out the cooled starter wort in the growler after pitch to aerate. I will try the sanitized tin foil on the next batch though... Also I only got about 3/8" of yeast on the bottom of my growler from a WLP002. Is this the normal amount from my size of starter (1qt H2O & 1/4...

    First Starter Problems/Questions

This is my first starter and am worried... So i made starter using 1quart water, 1/4 cup DME, yeast nutrient and yeast energizer (nutrient and energizer used recommended amount). It bubbled in the airlock from about hr 6 to 24 then quit. There appears to more yeast on the bottom of the...
