Dry Hopping Question Black IPA, CDA

Hey all, So I made my attempt at an big Black IPA (recipe below) and I've been thinkingabout how to dry hop. What would be the differences if I split up the 2oz into two, 1oz additions? I was thinking 1oz Zythos for 5 days, then replace that with the 1oz cascade for another5 days. Any...

    Fruit Beer Lemon-Lime Hefe Weizen

Update on the Brew... Kegged both versions (Belgian Wit and American Lemon-Lime, see post #92) and damn! This is good stuff. So, I've only tried the Lemon-Lime and it is sooooo good. I brewed this with US-05 so I think it is a little less phenolic and maybe a bit cleaner. I get a very crisp...

Pump In (Inside) a Toolbox - Stainless

Rack, so you decided to place the pump outside of the box, huh? It looks nice and clean, but I think that the only major departure from all of the other boxes was housing the head inside the box to protect it. Not saying your isnt nice, just noting that this is one of the major problems with...

Pump In (Inside) a Toolbox - Stainless

I have also seen where multiple gfci plugs will trip eachother. If it were me, and I'm biased, I would leave the design as is. It's been tested, works, and is really just as risky as turning the lights on in your bathroom. Or, do what basturd said and plug it into an adapter.

Pump In (Inside) a Toolbox - Stainless

No, your not missing something. Yes, the plugs are energized as soon as you switch the 'main' switch, but the pump circuit remains off until you throw the 'pump' switch. I don't know why it would be needed in another configuration, because anything that you plug into the box should probably be...

Pump In (Inside) a Toolbox - Stainless

Very cool, "Basturd". I'm so happy that this idea has caught on and people have run with it. when I first posted it I didn't think that is really gonna be that great of a thing to do, but it looks like you guys have embraced it, thanks for the great ideas and variations! Cheap and useful -...

    Need a burner for keggle

I just bent the center pointed tip of the three triangle pieces down in order to accept the radius of the bottom of the keggle. Was really easy.

    grain ratios for Black IPA

Can someone enlighten me on the major differences between the special versions of Carafa I, II, and III? I can't seem to find any info - is it just darker and darker? Thanks!

    grain ratios for Black IPA

I would add some dehusked Carafa III... You usually see some of that in almost all CDA's. Also, I'd probably get rid of the chocolate malt and up the crystal if you want to get some mouthfeel without roastyness... just my $0.02

    Fruit Beer Lemon-Lime Hefe Weizen

Update on the split batch: Both are basically winding down, with the lemon-lime still a bit more active because of the sugar addition from the limeade. I have been keeping them in a full bathtub at between 64-66 degrees. Tonight I will move them out and ramp up the temp a few degrees to rouse...

    Fruit Beer Lemon-Lime Hefe Weizen

Got this one bubbling away right now - so excited! I did a bit of a variation of the recipe due to circumstances, but I hope it will turn out great, I have high hopes. Here's how it went down.... So SWMBO loves wits (allagash, hoegaarden, etc...) and so do I. I've been neglecting here tastes...

Belgium White All Grain Brew Concern

Note that the with the Honey I would actually let it sit for even longer than normal... Honey has some more complex sugars in it that the maltose from your grain, so the yeasties will chew up all of the easily accessible sugars first, then slowly take their time with some of the honey sugars...

Belgium White All Grain Brew Concern

You'll get both sides of the track on whether to secondary or not. Personally I always do (mostly out of habit), but many never do and produce better beers that mine. If you were going to transfer I would let it sit in primary for AT LEAST 7-10 days first, then secondary for 2 weeks. If not...

    Uses for Hefe Yeast

I had some pretty good results with this yeast. I really dig this SN product. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f163/kellerweis-harvest-killer-214606/ Cheers!

Belgium White All Grain Brew Concern

I wouldn't worry at all - like everyone is saying. Just RDWHAHB, and be patient. I've had beers that my gravity readings say are done in 2-3 days. Have you taken a gravity reading? That is really the only way to see how a brew is progressing, counting bubbles can be almost useless at times...

Pump In (Inside) a Toolbox - Stainless

Wow, very cool - way to take it to the next level! Honestly, I think the hardest part of the whole build was removing that big-ass sticker from the front. Its like they used the strongest adhesive available to put it on.

Pump In (Inside) a Toolbox - Stainless

You won't be disappointed! I don't think I would change anything. Just make sure you make enough hoses for what you need - originally I only made two, but if you are using a plate chiller you will need at least three: one from BK to pump, one from pump to chiller and one from chiller to...
