    Black IPA Fermenting too warm...

Thanks, that is a helpful idea for cooling. I currently just have heating blankets so I'm sticking with ales for now. As we get further in to fall and winter it wont be an issue in the basement.

    Black IPA Fermenting too warm...

I just brewed a northern brewer black IPA using a safale US-05 yeast. The yeast has a fermentation max temperature of 75 degrees. This is the biggest brew in terms of gravity that I have made and the yeast were very active. The internal temperature of the fermenter reached 77 degrees. How much...

    First batch blunders...some advice needed

You will be fine, the bit of trub you poured in won't hurt it... especially if you plan on racking to secondary. As for the volume concerns, you should be just fine considering you diluted to hit your og mark instead of your five gallon mark.

    Rusted banjo burner

The banjo burner I purchased just about a month ago is now pretty darn rusty. I left the burner in a shed that was dry, but after all the snow we've been getting the roof leaked all over the burner. Turned the burner on its side and all this rusty water came dripping out the air inlet. Any tips...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Should I reserve a special keg for use with just apfelwein? I know people do this with soda making because the stuff really puts strong odors in the keg seals. I'm just curious if the apfelwein leaves odors in the keg that would effect a beer later kegged in it.

    Heat Tint?

Does this reduce the corrosion resistance of SS?

    Heat Tint?

Just got my new banjo burner in the mail today and fired it up. Its pretty ridiculous, love how quick it boils. After using it, I found a rainbow discoloration on the outside of my pot. From what I've heard its known as heat tint. Is this bad that I am experiencing heat tint? Does this weaken my...

    Boilermaker owners...

Do you keep your brew kettles spotless, or just don't really worry or care about having spots or water marks on the outside? I can't seem to get spots on the outside on my kettle off without scrubbing. Are the spots on my kettle an indicator of having hard water? What do you guys do to keep your...

    Banjo burner too big?

Just ordered a banjo burner to be used on my Boilermaker kettle. My Boilermaker is a 10 gallon kettle. I did not realize just how big the burner is. Is this burner going to be too wide for my pot and am I going to end up with flames spewing over the sides?

    Leaking C02 equipment?

Missed a set of threads on a ss to brass connection when I was tephelon taping. Taped that spot. Also put my pin lock connector under some starsan and noticed a few bubbles. Opened it up and put some keg lube on the gaskets. Problem solved, thanks for the input guys! :mug:

    Bourbon Porter Whisky Additon

Just added oak cubes and makers mark like the recipe called for in my bourbon porter kit. Just curious, should I even attempt to gently stir the beer before racking it to make sure the burbon isnt floating on the top of my beer? Don't want to stir up a whole lot of yeast on the bottom of my...

    Leaking C02 equipment?

Could my symptoms be caused by the regulator more likely? Can I put starsan directly on the regulator to find leaks? I just got a new line kit. Should I open the keg diconnect and put keg lube on its internal o rings. It's brand new. I have a check valve on a wye fitting for use with my beer...

    Leaking C02 equipment?

If I leave my CO2 tank with its main valve shut but the line still pressurized and disconnected from a keg, is it a bad sign that the pressure drops on the secondary gauge of my tank eventually? I have an old micromatic regulator and my last fill of CO2 seemed to last a very short time. I think...

    Blichmanns on Banjos

I am just about to pick up a new banjo burner for use with my ten gallon boilermaker. Was just wondering if you banjo and blichmann owners needed to modify the heat sheild supplied by blichmann to cover the valves of the boilermakers with this burner. Due to the spacing between the support legs...

How to get a good start to my autosiphon?

Are you pushing your tubing far enough onto the cane? I've noticed that I will get a fair ammount of bubbles if I don't. Your tubing could be too large and not making a good seal as well. Once you have it submerged try shaking it a bit but not enough to shake up yeast or trub on the bottom of...

    Aging my homebrew

Thanks Deuce and Aired, great advice and just what I was looking for. Do you guys know about the yeast's involvement with aging, if any? And just going back to one of my other questions as well, does force carbing actually kill the yeast at a certain level of pressure?

    Aging my homebrew

Thanks for the input guys. Anymore insight from others? What are your aging methods?

    Aging my homebrew

I just brewed a NB bourbon barrel porter kit and I am looking to age it since I have heard this one especially gets better with age. I never really aged any of my beers since they were lighter and more what you would consider a session beer. I just had a few questions related to the aging...
