    Going to Munich! Any suggestions?

Check out the research brewery for dinner and craft beers. http://www.forschungsbrauerei-braeustueberl.de/

Not sure what "Hoppy" Beer has to do with "Exploding Bottles"

Sorta firsthand experience with this, but with a keg. Brewed a Double IPA a couple of weeks ago, and then put a dry hop charge in after about 12 days later. I figured that fermentation was probably nearly complete (didn't bother taking a gravity reading), and just sealed the keg up. About 2-3...

    Hops can break down starches

Thanks! As for pellet hops, I wonder if it's such a straightforward situation. I've read that hops kilning is done around 150F, and amylase denatures around that temp. BYO article says that beta amylase can be completely destroyed in 5 minutes at 149F...

    Hops can break down starches

Hops can break down starches to give more fermentables. Cool summary here. https://www.scientificamerican.com/podcast/episode/beer-fermentation-hops-along/ If this has been reported before then I missed it. Now the question I have is whether the pellet-making process denatures those enzymes...

    Tap Labels (not a handle)

I realize that this is a really old thread, but it seems like a good post to add onto. I'm in the same situation, wanting /needing to leave the plain black handles as-is. In my case, I don't have much clearance above. So, the pictures pretty much say it all. I used the old bottle cap magnet...

    Groundcherry IPA?

Sounds like it could be a good combo. "You have to taste the fruit to fully grasp its complexity, says Lippman, who describes it as tropical yet sour, sometimes with hints of vanilla." https://m.phys.org/news/2018-10-wild-strawberry.html

    Growlerwerks uKeg

I'm glad to see that other people like their uKegs. I received one as a gift (original kickstarter version), and found it to be too much of a hassle. I never used it to carbonate, only for taking home brew somewhere else. I found that the whole idea of having to use the cartridges to dispense...

Chicago folks- any brewpubs/bars near Wrigley?

If you're willing to travel a couple of miles, then check out Metropolitan, which has a beautiful tasting room on the river (and fantastic Helles) and Maplewood, which is a few short blocks from there

Chicago folks- any brewpubs/bars near Wrigley?

Lucky Dorr is good for beers. Right next door to the stadium.

    Float system interferring with fermentation.

Never had a problem due to the float, and I do the same thing as you, brewing in a keg with a DIY floating dip tube. I'd bet that the problem is your keg isn't sealed properly. So the CO2 is leaking out somewhere other than the airlock. Try re-seating your lid.

Gummy residue on corny keg posts/poppet. What can I use to clean it off?

Yes, definitely replace all the gaskets. Once the gaskets are off, everything should be stainless steel and so you can use alcohol if necessary, or other solvents (acetone).

    Interesting German Brewing PDF

Interesting thought: boil water, dissolve gelatin while cooling some under a CO2 blanket to prevent O2 uptake, then transfer to the syringe to further seal out O2 before injection. I'd love to see how well that procedure would prevent O2 uptake. I cooled under a CO2 blanket when adding...

    Yeasty IPA

Seriously. I hope you get to read this before you do anything. There are threads on here describing cornys foaming over when they've been opened after pressurizing. It has happened to me, and it's a pain to clean up and a shame for all the lost beer.

    Interesting German Brewing PDF

It's definitely possible to inject stuff into a pressurized keg using a soda bottle with a carbonation cap and two disconnects. I've done it a few times. You just overpressurize the soda bottle, so if your keg is at 12psi, have the soda bottle be at 20 or something. The only problem I'm...

    Yeasty IPA

Since it's already pressurized, I wouldn't open it up and try to put an airlock on it. Just leave it sealed. No harm, and you'll avoid all sorts of trouble.

Glass Rinser for Keezer--need ideas on water storage inside keezer

Might be cheaper and easier to call a plumber and have a cold water line run to near your keezer?

DIY/poor man's floating diptube for clear beer

How long did you wait after dry hopping before pouring your first beer? Also, I assume that the gelatin was in the other keg, right? Or did you put gelatin in your dry hopped keg?

DIY/poor man's floating diptube for clear beer

Might work if it's done right. The way I understand it, that internal ball needs to be able to rotate 360degrees, until the magnet is lined up. If you were thinking to make a cage of sorts with those zip ties, loose enough to let the ball swivel but closed in enough to capture the ball and...
