Ferment and serve from same keg?

The last couple of brews I've put into corny kegs directly from the Grainfather and fermented under light pressure (2 lb or so). This time, instead of bending the dip tube I put in a floating dip tube and filter. Should I condition for two weeks (I'm doing a stout) and then serve the beer in the...

What I did for beer today

Cleaned a Heady Topper clone keg that kicked on Wednesday and mixed up step one of a two-step yeast starter for a Black is Beautiful Stout. Did inventory and sorted out a recipe for a Citra and Cascade pale ale before ordering what ingredients weren't in the inventory. I feel so organized...

Pressure Fermentation and American Pale Ales

Thanks for the tip. That was part of the rationale for purchasing the spunding valve but I hadn't looked into the specifics of how to do it.

Pressure Fermentation and American Pale Ales

Thanks for the replies. I think I might skip the spunding valve this time because I've never brewed this recipe before. Might be an interesting experiment to wait and try the valve with a recipe that's more familiar to see what the differences are.

Pressure Fermentation and American Pale Ales

I've spent a couple hours chasing down info about pressure fermentation (both here and on the wider web) but wanted to check my interpretation: I'm getting ready to brew a pale ale (a cranberry American IPA from Dick Cantwell's IPA book--recipe here). Fermenting under pressure wouldn't really...

The worst brewday of my brewing life.

Most of my brew days go more or less like this (maybe a little less). Including the rage at the design of the Grainfather's bottom plate. It's like the product designers were 99% of the way to a perfect system and thought, "Hey, I know what we're missing—an immensely stupid and obvious design...

What came in the mail for you today?

Starting a cranberry IPA, I think. Pureed cranberry already in the pantry. Waiting on the yeast.

How to clean a hop spider

What brand hop spider? I have the Grainfather and it doesn't seem that bad to get it to the 99.9% clean. Invert it and knock it into the trash, drop it in some PBW for a half hour while I'm finishing the rest of cleanup. Then I hit it with the kitchen sink sprayer and tap at it with a bristle...

What I did for beer today

    Didn't know that--thanks.

What I did for beer today

Munton's Dark DME. It's what I had on hand. Maybe I should have used a light DME for a double IPA? I just started brewing three or four months ago, so I'm still sorting things out. I'm not going to pitch the whole flask; I'll decant most of the liquid, swirl, and pitch the yeast.

What I did for beer today

Starter for a Heady Topper clone.

    What are you drinking now?

Forgot to grab a picture of the HB Blackened Brutal Bitter clone I had before this. Both decent.

What I did for beer today

Swapped out the cheap steepless clamps for hose clamps on CO2 and beer side lines (the first set of clamps that came with the dual tap regulator all leaked CO2 and beer, so I wasn't going down that road again). Kegged a Blacked Brutal Bitter.

How long between end of fermentation and kegging?

Thanks for the advice. I do have an empty keg so I'll transfer it this weekend when I have some spare time.

How long between end of fermentation and kegging?

Thanks! It’s my first batch with the Tilt (and only my fourth in the last few decades) so I’m still feeling my way. I’ll dry hop tomorrow, give it a few days, then cold crash. I wanted to make sure there wasn’t some sort of aging period needed after fermentation. - Johndan

How long between end of fermentation and kegging?

I've adopted the "We don't need no stinkin' secondary fermentation vessel" strategy so I'm letting everything sit in the primary. The Tilt hydrometer says that active fermentation stopped three days ago. I'm going to dry hop an ounce of Cascade in two days or so. So how long do I leave the beer...

Adding Yeast Starter to a Grainfather Recipe

Yes, that’s probably my best option.
