    (Kinda) Old Grain

Well, I did seal them pretty well in the tupperware and I put them in plastic bags as well. You may be right about the freezer flavors, so I'll definitely consider that, but as for their age and the temperature, they should be okay right?

Hmm. Nice that you have that rule of thumb for lagering. 1 week for every 8 points of OG for lagers. What's the rule of thumb for ales?

    Bitte Ein Bit

Ooooh. I noticed that on the chart but wasn't sure what that meant. I'll read closer. At any rate, I shouldn't need to do that for this brew, should I? The reason I'm going all-grain is because I really enjoy the challenge of a more involved procedure and further enjoy the reward of success...

    (Kinda) Old Grain

Less than a year ago, I stored some leftover grain into tupperware containers/storage bags and put them in the freezer. How long should these grains last without any unwanted side-effects? Freezing the grain shouldn't hurt it right? The grains are crushed. Thanks again!

    Bitte Ein Bit

I'm looking in my clone brew book at a Bitburger recipe. There are some interesting things to note in this recipe. The description: "Only spring barleys (Alexis, Arena, and Steiner) are used in this double decoction Pilsner, which is lagered for three months. This light- to medium-bodied...

    Propagation

I've got a starter going right now with 2308 Munich Lager yeast in it. The starter is for a Celebrator Doppelbock clone. It's going nuts in my new 1-gallon glass jug and it's pretty fun to watch. :) I was wondering how many yeast cells I'll end up with after letting it incubate for a...

    Lame. Thanks for the responses.

    WTS Beer

I know there are laws regarding the sale of home brew. I'm getting better and better at the craft and I'm really enjoying it. Some of my friends and others whom I've given samples to have said they'd be willing to pay for some of it. I'm wondering, what would one have to do to get...

    Chocolate Hazelnut Porter

How time flies. I'm the same way, I can never wait until the finish time to try one or six. lol :)

    Chocolate Hazelnut Porter

Has it been long enough time in the bottle already for it to be conditioned well enough?

    Warmer

Someone suggested on another thread I have going that I should get an aquarium heater to regulate my beer temperature during the evenings when it gets chilly, but unfortunately I can't find that specific thread to follow up. All of the aquarium heaters I can find are pre-set to 78° F, so I was...

    Chocolate Hazelnut Porter

It's hard to tell until it's conditioned long enough. :) Enjoy!

    Funny taste

That's kinda what I had in mind as well.

    Hops Balls - I have 2

How do you know how much time is left? I mean, I could guess by the rate at which it's boiling off, but it's a very rough guess. Maybe it doesn't need to be any better than "rough"?

    2.5°*L Crystal

I found one called CaraHell, I was thinking about trying. It's an 11L.

    Hops Balls - I have 2

What do you do with the hops after they have completed their boil time? Don't you need to get them out, so that you don't over-boil them? Do you let it sit in the fermenter and let it gather with the trub?

    Multiple temperature mash?

Sounds do-able, but I'd be afraid of clogging the braided tube in my mash tun. Something is telling me to strain out the grain with a sieve first, putting it into the mash tun first and then slowly adding the wort back into the grain.

    Hops Balls - I have 2

OMG, this made me rofl. I'll look for that! :D

    Darker after boil

All grain. I thought about that too, about it looking darker in bulk. I guess we'll have to wait and see. :) Thanks.

    Multiple temperature mash?

I actually did do that earlier today. :D It didn't make 100% sense, so maybe I'll study it a little more closely to understand it. From what I gather though, it's something you want to do when you have, uhh what did they call it, adjuncts (?) such as added fruits or grains like oats, or...
