    Beer Allergy Diagnosis???

    My sinuses get congested when I drink anything with Crystal Hops in it. I love IPA's and can't drink Sierra Nevada Torpedo for that reason. I can drink lots of others with no negative reaction.

    I have smelled my starters and tasted them... always taste my hydrometer samples. This was plain nasty smelling and tasting. I thought it smelled wrong. Thanks for the vote for normalcy Yooper.

    I gave it one more shot at bottle harvesting this yeast. I started with a bottle of Shakespeare Stout. The wife drank it. I tasted it but I'm not a fan of the super dark beers. well I was huffing on the starter i made with the yeast and I think it stinks. The last one smelled like this also...

    I woke up this morning to more foam. it is hard to see in the picture but the little brown krausen line is from Monday when I stepped it up to the flask, it had subsided some yesterday and now today the foam has increased and is over the original line. I have not changed the speed at all...

    Need to Re-pitch yeast - can I use different kind?

    I have used WLP833 several times and always keep it close to 70 until it starts then slowly drop the temp. I have had it take 3 days at 70 but I didnt use a starter on that one.

    i'll just pour into the new wort then. I'm moving it to a 2L flask. Thanks for all your help on this. I'm not brewing the batch I intend this yeast for until the 16th. Should I keep stepping it up every few days? or do I need to take it to X liters and refridgerate?

    that's what concerned me the beer was lighter than the DME...I could understand it if it was amber or a dark beer.

    I read somewhere that peanut butter color is indicative of yeast that is no good. This was light DME, the yeast came from a bottle of Rogue Somer Orange Honey Ale.
