So what do you do with...

A beer you just don't like? I have what you call my house beer I guess...(the one I have made the most)...it is a bock recipe. I make it two ways, as a lager and as an ale. I recently got an all grain recipe from a different HBS of the same name. Well it may have the same name but it is not...

    Pliny the Elder Clone

I brewed on 1/23. Used washed 1056 in a 2L starter. Had 1.067 OG. I dry hopped mine on 2/8 and had 1.008. I'll keg it on the 13th.

Aluminum vs (stainless) steel mill roller debate

I'm still on neither side of this fence as far as the health debate goes because I have no data to make a decision. So I was listening to the brew strong podcast on Metals 9-29-08. They mentioned that yeast actually removed copper from wort. There was an actual test. I wonder if the yeast...

DIY Grain Mill. I was excited until....

I haven't ignored any of the advice I have gotten. But I haven't heard one person say that they used these specific rollers and they wore heavily in a short amount of time. I got alot of assumptions. Why would I not want to "waste grain" if I was not heeding the warnings? I have a big oak...

DIY Grain Mill. I was excited until....

I had no idea this was such a sensitive subject. I apologize if I touched a nerve. I will post some pictures after I get it mocked up. I should have some time on Wednesday evening to get it done. I won't be able to crush any grain with it until after this weekend. I have prior engagements. I...

DIY Grain Mill. I was excited until....

For the record it was never about saving money on my part...I can afford a barley crusher. I just like to make stuff..and I am not a patient waiter...as in waiting for something to arrive after I have ordered it... Ok so in the interest of science.... I am going to slap it together in a...

DIY Grain Mill. I was excited until....

After some further searching on this board, I see this has come up a few times before. Has anyone actually used them? I'm not trying to fuel anyone's fire here... I noticed Yuri used aluminum rollers in his mill and another poster used "hard annodized coated" in theirs... I guess I will be the...

DIY Grain Mill. I was excited until....

Well I know I can't return all this stuff...cuz I modified some and chunked the packages of others... I considered the hardness of grain vs. this roller. I also considered Hal's point of it staying in the mash if it did get that far. I will go ahead and finish it but I'm making the...

DIY Grain Mill. I was excited until....

now where did I put that receipt?... Thanks for confirming my fears. I may have to eat what I have invested already and chalk it up to experience. All this because I didn't want to wait on a shipping. Thanks Darryl

DIY Grain Mill. I was excited until....

So I found what I thought would make great rollers for my soon to be mill. 24 bucks at Harbor Freight. I ran a shaft through one side, acquired all the necessary bearings, and drew up my plan. Then I read on here that aluminum rollers will not last long and that I will end up...

    Pliny the Elder Clone

I mashed @ 150 for 60, performed iodine test, then I ran off almost 7 gallons. probably explains why I missed the 1.074 OG on the sheet. Mine was 1.067. But it was only my third all-grain on my system. I'm still working all the bugs out.

    Pliny the Elder Clone

    Riddle me this Batman...

i know the beer will be fine. I just dont want to mess with it until it's finished because if I throw in the dry hops while it's still fermenting the co2 will carry off all the aroma right?

    Riddle me this Batman...

I have had my Ruination clone in the fermenter for 11 days now (wyeast 1056) and still have airlock activity. I need to dry hop (2oz whole centennial)it. Should I go ahead and pop it open or should I wait until I have no bubbles. I don't want to waist the aroma on my fermenting cabinet... I also...

    Houston Home Brewers?!

I'm out in Katy. I am not a members of any clubs. I know there is a group in Katy but I don't know anything about them. http://www.cialers.com/ I just wish there was a homebrew store open on this side of town. I hate driving through the Galleria to get to Defalco's

    One of my labels

yeah, but we don't get to brew very often...it takes a while to acquire enough "water" for a batch. Maybe I should get more weenies?
