Trying to clone Troegs Flying Mouflan

Had this beer for the first time last week and its already one of my all-time favorites. Looking to clone it up. Troegs website is nice enough to list malt and hop varietals used, but no precise measurements or ratios. The beer is a barleywine with 100 IBU's but it is very well balanced and...

    Williams Sonoma selling brew kits

I don't think hipsters shop at williams sonoma. They drink PBR by choice despite their parents being upper-middle class urbanites.

Beer Not Appropriate for Royal Wedding

I'm not making this a Britain vs. America thing. I'm merely arguing that you shouldn't tolerate the image or institution of royalty regardless of its historical significance. Those people you are proud of certainly didn't.

Beer Not Appropriate for Royal Wedding

This is equivalent to saying that you respect slavery because America wouldn't have gotten where it did without slavery (which it wouldn't have). I live in Virginia, which was the capitol of the south during the civil war. If the state flag of Virginia carried an image of an old slavemaster...

    Gordon Strong's New Book

I've been thumbing through my copy at nights, it seems like a pretty nice compendium of rare and exotic techniques that you normally only find in the dark recesses of the internet. He is quite opinionated at you'll probably roll your eyes at him at least once (like when he says extract brewing...

    the apartment brewer

Man way to dig up an ANCIENT thread. I brew AG in a very small apartment with glass top electric stove (you can't do the straddle trick with glass). I'll let you in on my little secret: two bucket heaters dipped into my boil kettle. here they are on amazon, I get 7 gallons boiling in about...

    Blichmann

depends on your current setup and skill level. There is a lot of advanced stuff you need when upgrading to batches of that size. For example, how big is your brew kettle and mash tun? sure you could do multi-boils like a commercial brewery but you're not gonna want to do more than two or three...

Beer Not Appropriate for Royal Wedding

right, so you redefine what royalty is then claim that your new definition applies here. Your definition is really just popular wealthy people. Like the kardashians. Or the osbournes. No. While you can call people in this country royalty all day long, its a huge difference. People living under...

Beer Not Appropriate for Royal Wedding

This really isn't the same at all and people have been making the kennedy argument for years. Sure a kennedy these days is still born wealthy with a nice trust fund and will have ample opportunity in life and some degree of natural popularity, but there are not a bound to hold dominion over...

Design for a Mash Tun raft

Dear Internet, I thinking about making a floating raft that I can set in my mash tun to eliminate the headspace. Does anyone have any design recommendations? I would like to give it a handle and the material must be insulating and buoyant. I was also considering it for the ability to...

Beer Not Appropriate for Royal Wedding

The institution of royalty, like slavery, should be fundamentally appalling to all free people even if kept as a symbolic one. Its a symbol that some people are born above others and is a relic of our species darker past that should not be tolerated in any form. I find it odd that so many...

Cold crashing...while watching the beer consume vodka?

I wouldn't worry about it, the air will be at the top of the fermenter and the co2, which is heavier, will be at the bottom in contact with the beer. Just don't disturb the fermenter if you can help it.

    Great Yeast Weekend

Brewed yesterday and today. I though yesterday's yeast was incredible as I was off and bubbling in about an hour, but today's batch was bubbling in TEN MINUTES. The picture below is yesterday's batch after 22 hours and its going crazy (starsan frothing up and extruding out the airlock). My first...

Final phase of my new setup all assembled, u jelly?

yes they are 7 gallons each and sitting on my kitchen counter. Its nice that these look cool because I don't have much closet space for fermenters. I have two blow-off tube assembly kits standing by. actually the middle fermenter had a blow-off attached for the first week and now its got an...

Final phase of my new setup all assembled, u jelly?

Apartment is set to 65 degrees and very stable. have thermometers on each. I would be shocked, *shocked* if one vigorous fermentation produced enough heat to cause a problem in and adjacent fermenter.

The new amazing bud light bottles

actually, I think true happiness can only come with a write-on vortex bottle where the rockies turn blue when its cold enough to drink. otherwise you'd have absolutely no way to know if the drink was cold. no way at all. and thats terrible.

Final phase of my new setup all assembled, u jelly?

These are all blichmann (I probably put one of john blichmann's kids through college by now). I've never seen one of the morebeer ones in person but I'd be interested to see how it compares. Is the the tank seamless? I like morebeers head/cold controlled unit but for the price I think I can...
