    For Sale Ispindel

Got mine the other day and its sending data fine. Tried ubidots, but for free version it isn't easy to get good graph for more than 2 different data. Cayde, you did leave in Plato and degrees C correct? Wanted to use grainfather as software for this, as I've been brewing with it for a while...

    Beer of the Renaissance period

If it were me, I'd go the way of DB and go with a mead. It will seem more like a period drink. And for sure these beers and ales had very little carbonation. One interesting item was calling the beer sweet. It might just be a term the writer was using, or it may be actually sweet, which...

    All in one system sparging

I haven't used it yet for brewing, but I recently bought my wife a new tea kettle. Glass and will hold 1.8 liters, half a gallon and will heat to boiling in about 5 minutes. Figure I can heat one full container, mix with about another qt or so to get 150 to 170f water. sparge with that and...

Anvil Foundry sparge or no sparge?

If you end up with more wort after boil, you need to cut back on water, or boil longer. If you hit target volume, then for sure lift the basket several times to circulate the water under and around the basket. There is 2 gallons of dead water there. You have to mix a bit.

    Iodophor - 12.5 or 25 ppm?

Nice thing about idophor is that it doesn't deteriorate nearly as fast as starsan. If you aren't mixing starsan each batch new, then it won't be effective.

How do you know "how much is left in the keg"?

does it really matter? I've two kegs in the fridge, one gets about a third to half empty before ai start sampling number 2. When I empty number 1, then number 3, which is ready to go in the fridge fully carbonated goes in. I start over. Brewing another well before the number 2 is empty...

Dry yeast manufacturers… could you please up the 11g packet size?

Enough for 5000 gallons . the safale S33 is only half price of a std pack. Not really worth that much savings unless you brew every week.roughly 40, 5 gallon batches worth....

Dry yeast manufacturers… could you please up the 11g packet size?

Temp does way more than yeast pitch rate which does nothing for esters ... But pitch rate does keep bacteria from taking as quick a hold. I made starters for years and only pitched liquid. But last 2 of 4 beers have been dry Nottingham and have worked great. Yes, liquid and starter kicks beer...

Rookie question - sanitized hydrometer reading

The mark must be at level the hydro would float at 1.000. But I drain out of the spigot into the hydro with the hydro in it till it floats. Let it sit for a couple of minutes if bubbles and get reading. Then I DRINK at least some of the brew. It gives me a decent idea if I did good job or...

Friend Gave Me an Old Keg, is it Usable?

Check the poppets to insure the top seal is ok, since this keg has been open to the air, it most probably is bad. Two new poppets most probably are needed also.

Dry yeast manufacturers… could you please up the 11g packet size?

All it does is speed up the process. Pitch one and wait an extra day. Commercial breweries pitch way high rates to get the brews finished, can't sell what isn't ready. Zero reason to pitch 2 or 3.

200 mg/l sodium in city water

I made my point, all the GUESSES that you guys make about the OP water is irrelevant. adding salt to finished beer? Really? Guesses on the sodium and chloride levels along with other minerals based on nothing. You guys know nothing about how well or not his softener works treating the water...

200 mg/l sodium in city water

The one HUMONGOUS thing that EVERYONE here has MISSED from the Original Poster is that NOT ONLY does he have 200mg of sodium coming into his house, but he has a water softener. What does a water softener use and ADD to the water? SALT, Sodium Chloride. In a big way. It totally makes the...

    Grainfather power adapter/supply

Straight from the GF40 site below. It has Standard US plug. If it has a NZ or UK or other plug, it is wrong model. If a product is sold in the US that is electric, it has to have a standard US plug or outlet on it per Federal regulation. If you don't anything about electrical items, hire an...
