British Golden Ale Miraculix Best - Classic English Ale

@bwible My experience is that the big on line supply houses constantly have First Gold on sale. I read somewhere on these boards that Northern Brewer and Midwest Brewing Supplies are both liquidating their stock of First Gold. I just picked up 4 pounds at around $3 per pound (sold in 8 oz...

    Your favourite AK recipe?

I humbly suggest trying this Machine House Mild: Machine House Mild Clong | Homebrew Talk - Beer, Wine, Mead, & Cider Brewing Discussion Forum I think the Baird's specialty grains really make this one. I did about 20 tries before my experience, talking with the brewer and having his recipe...

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

@Schlenkerla following your ground breaking beer engine hack with a marine pump and liquid propane regulator. First time in decades I actually made a wooden housing. It ain't pretty but considering I have only an electric drill and dependent on Home Depot saw cuts, it isn't a failure. Once...

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

@tracer bullet Appreciate the head's up on First Gold. I like First Gold and it always seems to be on clearance somewhere for some reason. I have locked on First Gold being my bittering hop for English ales, and then finish with EKG or Fuggles or First Gold. It's on close out for less than $3...

Danstar London ESB Dry Ale Yeast - Anyone use it yet?

Brulosophy was kinda cool when they first started and set out to verify and/or disprove home brewing canon, such as the lager yeast fermentation temp. After covering the "big rocks", I find them uninteresting. Your mileage may vary.

Fullers recipes for ESB/Pride/Chiswick, Imperials, NEIPA - from the horse's mouth

Especially thanks for posting the Collets Green Farm. Fascinating. When it's legal again, I do want to visit England for a beer tour. This or something similar should be on the docket.

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

I use First Gold a lot. It's always on sale at one of the standard websites in the US. So much so that it was only recently that I bought a pound of real EKG. I don't detect marmalade myself. Not even in conjunction with Pub, but I suck at describing flavors. At the LHBS, one guy is really good...

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

I have gotten my hands on some Chevallier. 1. First SMASH has a BU:GU ratio of 0.80 using Pub. The brew crew at the LHBS were completely flummoxed trying to guess the malt bill, and were gobsmacked when I explained it was a single malt. 2. Second try is an 8% with IBU ~80 and Essex Ale yeast...

British Golden Ale Miraculix Best - Classic English Ale

Whitelabs also has their liquid Whitbread, which is WLP017. I haven't looked at Suregork' sequensing, but Wyeast and White Labs are probably equivalent. Although I seem to remember that Whibread was 3 different strains? Methinks the Imperial Yeasts are all a cut above. Pub is certainly better...

British Golden Ale Miraculix Best - Classic English Ale

for what it's worth, blind tastes tests at my LHBS had S-4 (recultured second gen) + WLP017 Whitbread was preferred over either separately, Pub or WLP085 for an English London porter tribute (tribute in that this is something akin but not trying to make a clone).

What I did for beer today

So, I finally got the marine pump and gas regulator for a beer engine hack. The LHBS folks were really helpful finding the right parts and correct sized tubes, and should be set. Now just waiting on the plant stand from Amazon (stuck in a warehouse 20 minutes away) to get fully set up. If I...

    Low Enzymatic/Cold Mash/Low alcohol beer

I haven't done this for quite a while. 1. I now use a 400 micron brew in a bag bag. Once I started using that it didn't scorch. But I sure scorched the hell out of my fast batch pre-400 micron bag 2. I did several batches using the spent grains + 6-row. Came out fine but not a superlative...

What I did for beer today

I have WLP775 English Cider yeast on a stir plate and ready to go for a split batch cyser I will pitch tomorrow. Half the cyser will end up with a tincture of goji berries soaking in vodka, and half with the dregs and the oak chips used in my first ever wine kit (Malbec) that is now down to .998...

    Hi from Hamburg, Germany

A worthy quest, grasshpper, should covid allow it. You may want to start in Vermont, and Groennfell Meadery. They also do some cysers (apple honey). It's in the top NE of the US. You're going to have to finish in Washington State, it the top NW of the US and where something like 80% of all...
