    Home brewing on the decline?

Part of the reason may be the vast selection of beer you can buy now. Walk into any decent beer store and there is tons of good stuff. I certainly didn't start home brewing to save money, but as an opportunity to learn more and have fun. When I started brewing 6 years ago, the landscape was a...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I might give it shot and let you know. I rarely drink big beers like that, but I really enjoyed King Sue and would like to try something like it. I didn't know about the release til late today. Have any idea how much they have or when it will be sold out? The Mosaic dry hopped King Sue was...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I've got this fermenting away and it is looking good. I was thinking of brewing another batch to put on the yeast once this is done. Maybe change up the hops a bit to a Citra/Nelson/Mosaic combo. This also got me thinking of making an 8% Double IPA similar to TG's King Sue. What do you...

    Biofione Clear Dosage

The directions say, "Add between 1/4 tsp and 2 tbls after fermentation is complete, a day or two before packaging. This is a wide range for dosing, but some beers will require a higher dose than others. It is recommended to start with a small amount and add more if needed." I've also read you...

    Best Beer Podcasts?

I listen to the Session (lots of past episodes that are interesting), Brew Strong, Sour Hour, Brewing with Style, Experimental Brewing, Basic Brewing Radio, and sometimes Beersmith (Brad is really boring though, he needs to get a bit more excited and not have long periods of silence, it all...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I was finally able to brew this recipe today. Just finishing up the whirlpool now. I'll report back with how it came out. Cheers

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I was thinking of stepping it up a few times, a few days on each low gravity wort. It was canned 12/28, but its been through some travels. Should I cool it between and decant off the excess liquid? Any tips?

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I'm going to brew this tomorrow but was thinking of a second batch with a different hop combination. Do you have any good similar recipes using Nelson Sauvin or other similar tropical hops? I had a TG PsuedoSue for the first time yesterday and damn did that have a fantastic nose on it. Best...

    PicoBrew Zymatic

I've got a bit of browning on my step filter. I don't think you should use Oxyclean on the plastic, or PBW. I think those cleaners make the plastic more brittle and Picobrew has said not to use PBW in the machine. I wonder if using an acidic cleaner would be better to remove the beer stone...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Maybe I'll go with a Yeast Bay. http://www.theyeastbay.com/brewers-yeast-products/vermont-ale The double pitch Gigayeast pack is pretty tempting. I've been going through your post and it has lead me to quite a few improvements I can make. Kind of off topic, but since you're so...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

What's a good source of Conan yeast? Gigayeast? Omega? I haven't seen other options that I can buy. My chances to harvest Heady Topper are slim to none.

    PicoBrew Zymatic

I've tried to think of all kinds of methods for effectively cooling the wort and I think the best is to get an immersion chiller small enough to fit down a corny keg. I think you could get Jaded Brewing to make you one. I've seen a small one here: http://imgur.com/a/vwX5L After doing...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I really enjoyed Surly's Todd the Axeman, but like you said, a bit too high in alcohol compared to this. Citra/Mosaic is a pretty good combo and hard to beat. I just recently got a pound of Galaxy, but have never used them before so I'm excited to try it out. Thanks for the offer, I'll...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I almost drove there today from work for the hell of it. I'm about 3 hours away and would definitely like to make the trip to check it out. I still have yet to try any of these NE IPA's, but they look like they're all my style. I've got pounds of hops ready to use just for these. Is this...

JonyMac's Stillwater Home Brewery Bar Basement Build Thread

I keep looking through this for more ideas. Did you use Ditra under all of the tile on the concrete slab? I'm wondering what I should use. Kal's installer put down wood, but Ditra sounds a lot better. Or did you put it down right on the concrete?

JonyMac's Stillwater Home Brewery Bar Basement Build Thread

Man, this is awesome. I've got an unfinished basement that I was going to finish just like Kal's, but I'm also going to borrow some of your ideas too. I really like the wood tile flooring, that is nice! Do you find you need the drain in the floor for the brewery? I was debating on whether or...

    Upright Freezer Keezer Build

Here is my project to build a keezer. My inspiration comes from JonW: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=371438 I'm using a Kenmore 14 CF upright freezer, a few years old off of Craigslist that I picked up for $125. I could have got a 20 CF unit to fit more kegs, but I think...

Any codes available? I got the 308 on a Black Friday deal, plugged it in yesterday and the relay kept cycling and unable to do anything as the screen was flashing. I submitted a return through amazon but need to order a new one. Cheers
