brew day from hell? need advice asap!

You need to get another bung ASAP. Aluminum foil may be fine for tonight but first thing tomorrow you need to hit up your LHBS for a new one. You might want to pick up a couple just for instances like this. Keep an eye on the foil though. If fermentation is rigorous it could blow off and leave...

    Silly Emergency Liquid Thermometer issue

I assume you are talking about a sticker thermometer on the side of your fermenter. It is completely normal for it to take hours to cool down to pitching temp. You can either just let it sit tonight and pitch in the morning, or fill your tub with ice and water and stick the bucket in it. Either...

    Craigslist find question

http://phoenix.craigslist.org/nph/mat/2526702249.html Is there a way to use these kegs for home brewing? I haven't seen this type before so I was curious.

How do you guys clean your glasses and how/where do you store them?

I use the dishwasher. I then just put them right into the freezer. I enjoy my beer in a frosty glass. I have heard the debate about loss of head retention etc, but I have yet to have any issues. Works great for me.

    fermentation question..HELP PLEASE!

I personally wouldn't open the fermenter for at least a week. The yeast is quietly doing its thing regardless of airlock activity. There really is no point in taking a gravity reading so early. Unless you decide you are going to bottle after 3 days of fermentation at which point your beer will...

    Microbreweries in Glendale/Phoenix AZ?

If you can make it to the east side you gotta try Sleepy Dog Brewery. Awesome beer and a truly authentic local feel. They even sell bottled beer at the bar so you can take it home. Four Peaks is also a solid choice. They have great food and good beer. Sleepy Dog doesn't serve food but every...

Extract Brewing Without a Kit Help

If this were my recipe and I had no instructions I would do as follows. 1. Steep malt and barley in 3 gallons of water (partial boil) in a steeping bag at 155 degrees for 30 minutes. 2.Remove bag, and bring to boil. 3.Once boiling remove from heat and stir in extract. 4.Return to rolling boil...

How many beers in a day is considered too many?

Why did she bring this up? Was there something negative you did or do when you have had a few beers? I think that's the best way to figure out how many is too many. Everyone is different.

    Fixing sour beer?

Generally speaking bacteria shouldn't be an issue at 192. I definitely wouldn't recommend doing it that way though. Might be some really strong flavors from the tea bags. I also feel that pomegranate tea is sour in itself. You might have made it worse. Either way give it time. The flavors will...

Hint- Generally spicy, and great for the last 3 months of the year.

don't know if i should be worried

It sounds like it is doing just fine. Bubbling is not a good tool to measure the fermentation process. I have had brews that bubbled in my airlock for less than 24 hours and then the remainder of the time nothing. I have also had beers finish fermentation in a couple days, which sounds like the...

Just how bad ass is Star San?

All those stories have one thing in common. Human error. Star San is completely safe. I have left a bottle of it on my counter for months. The difference is that I make sure the outside of the bottle is free of undiluted solution before I walk away from it. It really is an awesome product. As...

    Show us your pipeline!

I wish I had a "modest" pipeline of brew! You know what they say. Only 2 things come from Texas. Steer, and a whole crap ton of good home brewed beer!

    Show us your pipeline!

Sounds like a butterbeer challenge needs to be thrown down! Call Jamil! I think the trick with Hef's fermented too high is to drink the batch fast. My Dunkel fermented too high. Great banana flavor. I really enjoyed it. Definitely didn't want to age it though. Had a lot of flavors that scared me.
