My Ugly Junk- Corona Mill Station...

Assuming I used your Efficiency tool properly, it's saying I had ~ 88% conversion efficiency.

My Ugly Junk- Corona Mill Station...

Conversion efficiency always confuses me... But using the Brewer's Friend efficiency calculator, I input my grain bill, and for volume, if I'm wanting to find my conversion efficiency I think I use my strike water volume? And for gravity I used my preboil gravity. That gave me about 80% in the...

My Ugly Junk- Corona Mill Station...

Forgot to update... I used my ugly milled grain for the first time a couple weeks ago. Only hit about 72% efficiency. So I tightened it up a couple spins and will try again next time.

    Keeping Proper Temps

You can buy an inexpensive digital kitchen thermometer, with a temperature probe. (This sort of thing https://www.amazon.ca/Taylor-Digital-Cooking-Thermometer-Probe/dp/B001GD1WHU?source=googleshopping&locale=en-CA&tag=googcana-20&ref=pd_sl_8fngtzv23f_e) Attach the temperature probe to the...

    Keeping Proper Temps

Because I don't have room for a fridge/freezer of any kind to dedicate to my brewing, I had to go small-footprint, small storage requirements, yet still functional. I landed on a Coolbrewing fermentation cooler, and it works pretty great. I don't have automated control, but by using one or two...

IPA with no hops during boil

If your only goal is to confirm that fermentation is done, then yes, you can use a refractometer. As you said, the reading won't be 'accurate' (though you can use online calculators to correct and get a somewhat accurate value), but a consistent post-fermentation refractometer reading will...

American IPA Trilium Melcher Street Clone

I just realized I never updated this. I let the bottles carb for about a week and a half and was actually pleasantly surprised by the result. It wasn't what I expected when choosing this recipe... I expected a hazy, juicy, NEIPA, and instead I got a relatively clear, balanced, but bitter...

How to brew regularly without having a warehouse of beer on hand?

It's been said multiple times, but just wanted to echo the "reduce your batch size" comment. I do 3.5 gallon batches, get 17-18 650ml bottles from each batch, and typically those bottles will last me a 2-3 months, or more, as I don't drink the same beer repeatedly, so have a few available, plus...

Heavier than air gas while bottling?

Trying to wrap my head around this idea. I'm picturing purging the bottle with CO2, then filling the bottle from the bottom, which will push the CO2 up and out of the bottle. Assuming we fill until foam is just overflowing, the bottle would have all of the purging CO2 pushed out, right? Then...

    Bottles

I condition my bottles in rubbermade totes, with lids, no worries of bombs... I'm not really worried about it but better safe than sorry. After a few weeks I move them into cardboard boxes in a cool location. No bottle bombs yet.

    Bottles

I do 3.5 gallon batches, and bottle in 650ml bombers, so I only have to fill 17-18 bottles at most. Easy peasy, it takes me longer to prepare and clean up than it does to do the actual bottling. If you're "stuck" with bottling, and don't like the process, consider smaller batches, and brew...

    Mandarin IPA or Pale?

    Thanks for the input.

    Mandarin IPA or Pale?

What would be considered a generous amount for a typical 5 gal recipe. Again I'm doing smaller batches but I think it's easier to talk in standard amounts then I'll scale. I'm not wanting to make a hop bomb, but I would like the hops to shine.

    Mandarin IPA or Pale?

Thanks for the input. In reading around I keep coming up the the mandarina Bavaria hop suggestion. I'd never heard of it before now. Maybe I'll find a pretty standard ipa recipe and look at using mandarina and Amarillo. I'm assuming I'd want to use them primarily for late boil, flame out, and...

    Mandarin IPA or Pale?

Does anyone have a tried-and-successful mandarin pale ale or IPA recipe that they could recommend? Looking for all-grain. I do 3.5 gallon batches, but can scale from whatever batch size. Last night I tried a commercial Mandarin IPA from 4 Mile Brewing in Victoria, BC, and really enjoyed it...

My Ugly Junk- Corona Mill Station...

So AncientMariner, I ended up taking your advice, lol, and moved the mill, taped over the offending drill holes. :p I haven't cut the bottom out of the mill bucket yet... I can't decide if I want to do that, or just leave it alone and crush into the one bucket and then dump out. Anyway, all I...

My Ugly Junk- Corona Mill Station...

That would mean my 45 minutes of work on this would be wasted. I think I'll just pretend you suggested to go with the duct tape collar. :ban:
