    First All Grain

My bad... I guess I could have elaborated more... We have two keggles we made...one for HLT, the other for a brew pot, a 70qt. Coleman extreme cooler as a mashtun (yes...it's blue), a kick a banjo propane burner and an immersion chiller. We were going to use a bucket of cold water and a pump...

    First All Grain

It was my first AG day yesterday...a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale clone. Everything went as planned except for the cracked thermo and the broken pump. We were off two points on our OG (under) and our brewhouse efficiency was about 80%...I felt solid first run. The whole process took alot longer than...

Probably want to keep it on the down low so as not to...

    beersmith/efficiency question?

This is a great thread. I have been looking into brewhouse efficiency as well. Most hydrometers are calibrated to 59 degrees F, so wouldn't you have to adjust the pre-boil gravity reading if it was taken at say a higher temperature? We are assuming that the gravity readings kornbread has...

    Airlock question

I use three peice air lock on my carboys. They are great because they are easy to use and you can take them apart to clean/sterilize them. As for the fluid in the air lock I have used vodka or water, typically just use clean water. I think your biggest concern here would really just...
