    I had the same problem using an old tank. I probably had a cm of soot on the bottom of my boiler. I would assume that propane goes bad with age just like petrol.

    From my experience, any beers 1.060 or bigger with beano tabs REQUIRE a blowoff. I've done a lot of brews with beano and it makes the ferments very aggressive.

    Fermentation Temperature Woes

    Put the fermenter in a bucket of water, put a t-shirt on the fermenter like its wearing it. Run a normal fan on the fermenter. You should get 7 deg out of it. I was basically in the same boat and turned 75 to 67-68. The shirt wicks the water and the fan cools the shirt.

    BYO had a chile beer recipe recently and they were saying to toss them in the boil at 10 mins. Last night there was some left over chiles from a can after cooking. I took tsp worth and tossed it in my bitter. It was pretty good.

    I brewed a wit last weekend with about 40% flaked wheat using a similar setup. It ran a little slow, but thats the worst I've had.
