    Hydrometer/Bottling

It can take 8-14 days for your beer to be completely done with fermentation and to let all of the loose proteins and flocculated yeasts to settle out on the bottom. Short fermentations can also lead to high levels of diacetyl which can lead to a buttery taste/aroma to the beer. So all in all...

    Direct sunlight??

From what I understand irect sunlight isnt the best while brewing but it is ALOT worse when you let your beer sit in the sunlight while carbing in the bottles or if you store your bottles in sunlight. The sunlight reacts with the hops oils in the beer to cause a chemical reaction that causes the...

    Cheaper cleaning/sanitizing.

So I believe I will be sticking with cleanitizer which I can get more of for the same price as oxiclean free and it has already proven to work for me. But what is the right way to use star san? I have been mixing an ounce per 5 gallons of water to sanitize.

    Cheaper cleaning/sanitizing.

Well I do see my LHBS sells iodophor in 32 oz bottles which will give me about twice the amount of use for about the same price as the star san. I think I skip the hassle of bleach which I have been hearing more and more about then just on this forum. I WILL REFUSE TO GIVE UP THIS HOBBY FOR...

    Cheaper cleaning/sanitizing.

So I just bought me some bleach and oxiclean so I can start saving more money when it comes to brewing. I find conflicting information on how much bleach to use to sanitize and its proper use. I also find the some conflicting information for using oxiclean to clean my equipment. Any hints or...

    Fermentation blowout!!!!!

So I check on my lemon wheat beer that was on its first 24 hours of fermentation and noticed that the krausen buildup was so bad that it was spewing out of my fermentation lock. I felt I have no choice but to take the fermentation lock off. I placed a towel around the neck of the carboy to catch...

    Unexplained loss of C02!!!!!!

I only have one kegged hooked up to this tank.

    Unexplained loss of C02!!!!!!

The tank is all the way open and I checked all places where I could have possible leaks after it had been sitting in the fridge for a couple of days.

    Unexplained loss of C02!!!!!!

So I have a C02 tank with just a simple regulator to carbonate my kegged beer in a seperate refrigerator so when I am ready for a new keg of beer it is already carbonated. I just started using this system and I have checked for leaks on at least 3 seperate occasions using soapy water. The first...

    No longer getting full fermentations.

I will check the thermometer before brewing next, any suggestions on how to do so? Also, I thought mashing at one temperature would produce the same affect of getting the long and short chained sugars you needed.

    No longer getting full fermentations.

I am using BeerSmith 2 to make my recipes and the software automatically calculates how much fermentables you will have with what you use. It also calculates excatly how much water and at what temperature to mash in, mash out, and sparge at taking into mind the equipment I use. This particular...

    No longer getting full fermentations.

I just watched to all grain using an MLT system. I am hitting great OGs and getting great efficiency with this system. I use filtered water, I aerate the wort well after cooling it quickly, I always double pitch liquid yeast, and I use a fermentation chamber to keep the fermenting beer at great...

    Its official

I wish I could brew outside, take this as a chance to bask in natures glory as you birth the drink of the Gods. Zeus will be happy your wife kicked you out, just get a nice propane burner and enjoy the weather. (dependent on your location.)

    Brewing Guide

I think it would be really interesting to just enter in a bunch of random grains, ferment the resulting wort, and see what it turns out to be. At that point I think that would be busting into the realm of random hybrid beers which could be good or bad depending on what you use. The other thing...

    Low OG reading, worth drinking?

So I brewed my last attempt at the BIAB method before moving to my new MLT system and the last batch was a dunkelweizen. I brewed it just like I did my last batch but instead of getting the estimated OG of 1.052 I only acheived an OG of 1.025:mad:. I also had a really short fermentation time...

    Your worst brew ever.

Sad stories all around, my batch is doing good so far. Im about done with the boil and about to cool down.

    Your worst brew ever.

I would have to saw today has been the most frustrating day for brewing that I have ever had. Until my MLT comes in I do AG brewing on the stove top with an 8 gal and a 5 gal stock pot. I use deathbrews method since I also have an electric stovetop. The brewing process began with me remembering...
