    Do your wives get mad?

She mostly gets mad about the time I spend doing it. And I'll usually get the "Why dont you clean the rest of the house as good as your beer equipment?" But I don't think the 1 day a week that I devote to brewing in some form is to much to ask. Although she doesnt know about the steel and...

    Brew Day Organization

I am starting this thread to learn what people do to be prepared and stay organized on their brew day and beyond. I'm a fairly new brewer (5 AG batches) and I have done a poor job of record keeping. I am starting to get more organized and hopefully this will improve my end product. To...

    Rig building Question

I'm in the process of designing my new brew rig. I don't have much experience with metal work and welding, but I'm going to learn. My one question that I am currently wondering is about the joints for the frame. Some people will do a 45 degree cut and weld along the angle, others with just...

Brewing outside when it is below freezing

Similar to what others have said above, I carry my batch inside and attach my IC to a utility sink. Luckily I have a walk out basement so there are no stairs. The cold ground water does improve my chill times though :)

    Brewing Under The Influence

My story goes.... When I needed bottles for bottling I ran to the LHBS to try and beat closing time. I get there only to realize I missed closing time by two hours...so instead I run to the liquor store buy 3 cases of summit, call a few friends, drink the beer, clean the bottles, then bottle...

What was your initial investment into your home brew setup? How has it changed?

Started with a starter kit from NB (160 I think) also added banjo burner, extra carboys, immersion chiller. ended up being 400$ or so. Soon after I upgraded to all grain (within a month). Now I am up around 1400$ for all the equipment and ingredients I have purchased. All within a span of...

    Beer on my ceiling!

I bottled a Lakefront Brewery Bridgeburner Partial Grain Kit from Northern brewer. Brew day went well, fermentation seemed normal (although very vigorous). The problem arose during the bottling stage. I bottled in 1L bottles with table sugar doing 5/8 cup in 2 cups of water mixed with 5...

First all grain brew: Brown Porter

Just did a recipe similar to this as my first all grain as well. Im doing a Bourbon Barrel Porter. Calls for oak cubes and makers mark to be added in the secondary. Wasnt my first choice for my first AG because the bourbon and oak part might hide some off flavors that I might get. But I...

    New(ish) Brewer From Minnesota

Howdy! Just getting started in the forums. I am starting to expand my brewing setup and I am finding lots of good ideas here. I just setup a three tier gravity fed system and did my first all grain batch (Bourbon Barrel Porter). Slowly planning on upgrading my setup. Future plans are to...
