    The $7 brew

Well I just brewed this Saturday, no changes to the recipe. Pitched washed US-05 and it's happily fermenting away. OG of 1.046. I'll keg this in a couple weeks when done and we'll see how it turned out!

    The $7 brew

Definitely will update. I may try to get a quick brew in this weekend. I'm just getting back into the states after a few weeks away so I'm getting the itch (in the Middle East no less, so it's been a bit of a drought for me, no beer!)

    The $7 brew

BTW, the Belma hops are a new variety from Puterbaugh Farms (Hops Direct). They are selling them right now for $5.25 plus shipping, which is a great deal as long as you are already ordering some other hops. I figured this recipe might be a good way to see what these hops have to offer, since I...

    The $7 brew

Man, based on kpr121's recipe and my costs, I could get down closer to $5 for materials. Haven't made the jump to electric yet but that's in the near future especially since it could be an easy, giant sous vide system as well. I really have no hopes of recouping costs, I spend as much time...

Thanks, that one's new to me. I'll check that out too. :mug:

    The $7 brew

Good to know, I'll check that out. Alhough I think I saw somewhere Beersmith was having a Black Friday sale, that might be the perfect time to get into the software.

    The $7 brew

Thanks for the reply! Those numbers are about what I was hoping for. It looks a little light on the OG for the style, but that is to be expected with only 8.5lbs of malt. I think I'll give this a try and see how it turns out. As far as the cost cutting, its more for fun than anything, I've...

    The $7 brew

So I just recently got into all-grain brewing, and I probably need to go ahead and get some brewing software, but in the meantime I'm looking for some advice on a recipe. I got a great deal on some bulk grains, and with a impulsive buy of a couple lbs of Belma hops from HD at $5.25, I decided I...

Do you use your Homebrew in cooking?

Yep, I have used homebrew in lots of recipes. Favorites are either a stout or doppelbock in chili, as well as a coffee stout I used in a gingerbread cake. Can't go wrong with those.

    Classy Beer Glasses

I have my fair share of big glass Oktoberfest glasses and steins and whatnot, but my go-to glasses are these: http://www.amazon.com/Spiegelau-Beer-Classics-Connoisseur-Gift/dp/B003QRDPBA/ref=sr_1_1?s=kitchen&srs=2601085011&ie=UTF8&qid=1352726319&sr=1-1&keywords=spiegelau I have a few sets...

Buying Crystal malt in bulk - Home kilning question

Well that's why I was asking, I had no idea if it was worth the effort or if I would even get the same results. Normally I wouldnt do the specialty grains either, but I can get a bag of 10l for $25 right now, but not worth the storage space of I can't kiln it to the varieties I usually use.

Lol, if that was what I was after I could just watch Breaking Bad!

Buying Crystal malt in bulk - Home kilning question

Well, I am getting ready to put together a bulk order, and I am debating whether or not to get a bag of Crystal malt. I was thinking I might be able to get a sack of 10L or 20L crystal, and oven-kiln at home to darker varieties as I need it. Has anyone had success with this? How difficult is...

    Re-using 75cl Chimay bottles...caps possible?

I found the 29mm caps at several of the larger online homebrew retailers (ie. Austin, etc.). Make sure you have the larger bell to put on your capper as well.

    Blank 12-pack boxes?

I'm just looking for cardboard boxes. I could make the wooden ones, but that will take too much time right now.

    Broken Diffusion Stone

Well, I went to grab my diffusion stone to oxygenate my last batch last weekend, and somehow the stone itself detached from the stainless wand it came on. Has anyone fixed one of these before? I was thinking of just trying to epoxy it back on, but I do not know whether the epoxy is food safe...

    Blank 12-pack boxes?

Has anyone seen these or know where to get them online (or elsewhere for that matter)? I am brewing a few batches to bottle and give away at Christmas, but not having any luck finding blank 12-pack boxes, just 6er's. I can always go the 6 pack route but I would rather do 12 since I am putting...

First All Grain BAtch - Wary of boil volume

Wow, lots of good information here. Thanks for the responses! Looking forward to seeing what happens with this. It is more or less a "kitchen sink" beer to clear out some stock, so I thought I would play around with it and see what happens. :mug:
