Need some expert advice on kegging system

Go with the 20lb tank and manifold. Keep a 5lb tank around for odd jobs. Trade the second 5lb tank in on the 20lb tank to offset the cost.

    Fermenting a Heff at 58F

Ambiant temperature is different than wort temperature. I have my weizenbier fermenting in a bucket on the ground floor office. 68 on the stick-on aquarium thermometer placed from the 3 gallon mark down (so about lower third of the bucket).

    How much do you buy?

Let's take the simple extract recipe I brewed for example. 6.6lbs of LME and 1.5oz of hops (single hop brew) for a 5gal batch You make it, you love it, no changes, recipe dialed in to your taste. How much do you buy? Do you load up on hops to make sure you can get it, then buy LME as...

No co2 left, is my beer ok?!

What diameter is your line? How long? What type of beer? All of this matters. Check your o-rings, connections, regulator, etc.

    Using marijuana...

State law is of no concern. Medicinal marijuana is still illegal in the eyes of the federal government.

    Using marijuana...

Might be legal with state law, but federal law trumps state law and federal law says possession of marijuana is illegal.

Are there any brewpubs that use homebrew size equipment

Problem with most brewpubs is it's brewery and restaurant combined. You definitely make your money on beer sales. I've been in restaurant management and it's tough. It takes a certain personality to run a profitable restaurant. In brewpubs, generally the food profit covers those employees and...

Are there any brewpubs that use homebrew size equipment

Red Jacket Brewing Company started brewing only a half barrel at a time in 2004. They currently have a 3.5 barrel system. They are the brewing division of the Michigan House Cafe. The restaurant shuts down on Wednesdays and then brews the beer. The cooks are the brewers and there is one part...

    How much yeast for Hefe?

I've got a weizenbier from Brewer's Best (kit) fermenting right now. Pitched the yeast Sunday late night. Yeast is Danstar Munich dry yeast. Fermentation started after about 18 hours. Late Monday it was a bubble per second. Last night it slowed down to one per 1.25 seconds and today it's one...

Which of these is the better kit?

That all depends on your local market. My local HBS is a tiny, tiny section of a co-op that has about a dozen beer kits, very small selection of grain, no hops, no priming sugar, some bottles, and a couple Better Bottle carboys. No one on staff brews their own beer. It's strictly "we have it, we...

    Yup. My suggestion as well.

Which of these is the better kit?

What I would do is buy or rent (from the library) a brewing book. Palmer's book is good, so is Home Beermaking by Moore. Read a book first, learn about what is involved, then buy your kit based on your needs and budget.

    What are you drinking now?

Tried Sierra Nevada Pale Ale for the first time tonight. Great beer. Getting late so I should sleep well.

Wort still to hot to add yeast.

I think next time I'll try the cold water thing in the sink. The plastic safety bucket is a cut down 55 gallon plastic drum from work. I get them for free and just take what I need at the time. Make great garbage cans for the workshop.

Wort still to hot to add yeast.

Finger points to level after boil. Started with 2.5 gallons. Fermentor in "safety bucket". Any overflow is caught in the big bucket and saves the floor (and a messy cleanup).

Wort still to hot to add yeast.

I used tap water from the faucet. I ran the water into a cup in the sink with a thermometer in it. When the thermometer read a steady 70 degrees, I moved the wand over to the bucket and topped it off that way. I didn't have the money to use bottled water (in the gallon jugs), so I just used tap...

Wort still to hot to add yeast.

Thanks guys. I have it in the fermenting bucket on the porch. It's 6 degrees outside. For cooling after boiling it took almost an hour to get down to 70 degrees like the instructions said. said to add water at 64-72 temp to top off. Water temp must have crept up when I was adding it to the...
