How Many Gallons of Homebrew in 2018?

    6618 + 2.5 G Amber ale = 6620.5G

How Much Grain/Water to Use for 1-Gallon

Do you know how much you lose to evaporation during your 1 hr boil? That is an important number. I lose .5 gallon when I do small batches on my stove. You might have different results.

    Screwed up with airlock

Yeah, I plan on bottling it anyway. I'm not tossing out all that work just because it "might" be messed up.

    Screwed up with airlock

I think I might have screwed up my last batch of beer with the airlock. Or not. When I go to cold crash my beers, I pull off the airlock and just cover the bung with a piece of sanitized aluminum foil to avoid any suckback. Well, when I did this the other day, I realized I never put in the...

Looking for source of knowledge for basics

Entertaining video, but I cringed when he "racked" the beer from the primary to the bottling bucket by pouring it from one bucket to the other. WOW!!

    How Much Hops? Supplier?

Wow, just checked the link. When I bought the scale it was $8.99. Might look for a different supplier. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000O37TDO/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

    How Much Hops? Supplier?

I'd suggest using Brewer's Friend and an established recipe. Plug all those numbers into the software as written in the recipe. Then at the top, click on "Recipe Tools", scroll down to "scale" and enter 2 gallons for new batch size. One other tip I'd like to offer, is under hops, change the...

    Beer tastes like Yeast

You say you bottled yesterday? I'm guessing you tasted the hydrometer sample? I wouldn't worry too much about it at this point. Give the yeast two or three weeks to do their thing in the bottle, eating up the priming sugar and carbonating the beer. The taste will change immensely as it...

How Many Gallons of Homebrew in 2018?

I've been bad about updating my brew on this thread so I had to go back and count where I left off and realized that I had added one of my brews twice. Sorry. 6295-5=6290 But since I left off 1 G German Pale Ale 1 G Lager not Lagered 2.5 G Pale Ale 2.5 G River Rat (Blue Moon Clone) 1 G SHaME...

Crystal 150L substitution in American Amber Ale

I'm going to be brewing up the American Amber Ale in Brewing Classic Styles. While getting my grains at the LHS, I realized that they did not have Crystal 120L. They had 80 and 150. I grabbed the 150, but now I'm wondering if that was the right choice and what kind of changes I can expect. It's...

    Clawhammer, Grainfather, or Robobrew?

Have you considered the Brewer's Edge Mash and Boil? It uses standard household connections and also runs 1650 v. Price is $300, but doesn't come with any kind of chiller, but if you already have a chiller of some kind, why purchase another one? I'd like to get one someday, but money is tight...

    Anyone brewing on the 4th?

As much as I’d like to, no. Got a lager in my beer fridge and two batches in my fermentation chamber so no room right now.

Bottling or Keg System - When Do You Realize It's Time For An Upgrade?

I voted for the first choice as it's the only option for bottling. 5 years in, 53 batches and still bottling. I very rarely do 5 gallon batches anymore. Usually 2.5 g batches, some one gallon, some in between. I don't mind the bottling, but I would like to keg someday. Just not sure the wife...

Any idea what these white dots on the inside of the fermenter are?

Looks like a one gallon batch of beer, right? As mentioned, probably just residual yeast. For the most part, I let all my small batches go for three weeks. Might be done earlier, but it gives the yeast some time to clean up after themselves and it ensures that they are done and FG has been...

    Solitary brewer ?

53 batches in and I've only brewed with somebody else twice. Not that I don't want to, just hard to match up schedules. My wife doesn't really drink beer, so she's not really interested in helping. Sometimes, my 3.5 year old son will ask what I'm doing and wants to help. He stirred the pot the...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Over the weekend, I knocked out a 1 gallon batch of blonde ale and a 2 gallon batch of APA from Brewing Classic Styles. We're getting into the 100+ temps here in the DFW, so for me its time to put away the propane burner and start brewing smaller batches on the stove in the comfort of AC...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Frosting buckets from the bakery in grocery stores work great. I've got 3 2.5 gallon ones that I use. Never bothered to wash off the stickers though. I'll be doing a one gallon blonde ale tomorrow based off the recipe from Brewing Classic Styles.

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Go to Lowe's (or other home fixer store) and pick you up a 2G food safe bucket for $3.50 and drill a hole in it for your spout and bottle from there.
