How to add permanent volume markings to a kettle (illustrated)

Interesting. Everything should be ok then. Can you see your markings at all?

How to add permanent volume markings to a kettle (illustrated)

@ qmax, I have a stupid question. After the first boil where you did obtain the oxidized layer, did you clean the pot and scrub the layer off or use an abrasive cleanser? I have 2 aluminum pots, 7 gallon and 15 gallon, that after the initial boil, never lost the oxidized layer. I can't see...

    Switching to all-grain...stove vs outdoor?

I have a POS glass top stove and even extract batches were a pain to get boiling. I bought a $40 turkey fryer setup at Walmart and never looked back. 50 plus batches later. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

Things about your co-workers that annoy you

The woman who works an 8 to 5 shift with a 1 hour lunch. Takes her lunch at 3, comes back at 4, leaves at 5. Don't know why, but this bugs me to no end and her lunch time has no effect on my job whatsoever. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    WLP001 krausen just won't fall

You can cold crash and see if the krausen falls or try shaking the fermentor here and there. You could also sanitize a spoon and stir it if it's in a bucket. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

Who is in the 3-5% ABV Club???

I can appreciate a big IPA or stout every once in a while, but for everyday consumption and brewing, I like to stay below 6%. In fact, I am only brewing session ales for the next year. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

Things about your co-workers that annoy you

I only go out to lunch once in a while, when I do the one lady in my office, who happens to be the pickiest eater on the plant make me pick her up something......always special ordered. So after a half hour when I get back, I get the remaining half hour to eat which I don't mind. She eats...

    Being broke and a homebrewer

I've been there and money is still tight. I choose to brew rather than buy beer when money is really tight and I am at the point where I drink roughly 80% homebrew vs commercial. I am lucky that now that I have all my necessary equipment (purchased slowly over the last 6 years,) most of my 5...

    Do you enjoy Pumpkin Beer?

I buy one pumpkin beer a year to remind myself why I do not like pumpkin beer. Someone mentioned buying the Saranac 32oz bottle and dumping it just to have the bottle to cart homebrew in, I do the exact same thing. Better than filling a bomber, and better than filling a whole growler.

    Can decide on hop schedule

Brew day done. Stayed with the 20 and 5 minute additions, which turn into continuous additions (20 to 15) and (8 to 5) due to new use of DIY hop spider. Taste test after the boil tasted pretty good. I will test it in 2 weeks and decide on dry hopping then. Thanks, Joe

    Can decide on hop schedule

I am brewing a session ale this morning with locally grown Cascade hops but cannot decide on my schedule. I want it to be as balanced as possible. Here is the malt bill: 6lbs Maris Otter .5 Lb Brown Malt .5 C-120 .5 lb table sugar (late addition) Mash at 152 OG: 1.042 (based on...

Stainless braid or 12" bazooka screen for a mash tun cooler conversion

I do not know if it is the same exact one, but looks pretty close. I bought a complete kit, including ball valve, from my LHBS.

Stainless braid or 12" bazooka screen for a mash tun cooler conversion

I have the same cooler and use the bazooka screen. After 50 + batches, no stuck sparges, no rice hulls.
