    Thanks!

    Tubing

Roger that. Yes for cooled wort only +- 70F. Food grade only is what I will check for.

    Tubing

I know our Lowes has those same reels of tubing. I am now thinking that after flame out and wort chilled I can safely attach this tubing with no worries about a hot barb. I have read the PVC tubing can go to 170F (silicon over 300F). Only worry I have is the food grade of the lowes tubing...

    Hi all Newbie here

Welcome! I am also new to brewing and on my third batch so I have infinitely more experience than you. From my readings 3 weeks but it will keep getting better and level out at 6 months. Don't fall for the 'freshness' and 'born on date' crap comercial breweries try to sell us. I taste my beer...

    Tubing

Just installed a ball valve in my kettle so the next thing is tubing to drain to my primary from our kitchen gas stove. I have read that thick wall silicone tubing is the best but is there anything at lowes / hd that can be used? I am thinking temperature and food grade is important factors...

What band do you listen to on brewing day?

    Yeast starter and over pitching

I did give mr malty the expiration date of 1/28 and also entered the correct OG (1.050) @5.25 gal and that changed it a bit to 4.64 with 2 vials. I figure if I can get hold of a 2gal vessel I should be good for a 4.64 starter + head space. Probably going to end up with 2x 1gal growlers. I will...

    Yeast starter and over pitching

I Just did a mrmalty calc (thanks cool site) http://www.mrmalty.com/calc/calc.html This is what I got: 2 vials in a 4.24 liter starter Problem is my flask is only 2000ml and I am not even sure at 2000ml mark if there will be enough head space left. I have one of those lab flask you can...

    Yeast starter and over pitching

I am on a roll and planning my third brew this weekend. I am going to clone a South African beer - Castle Lager. My LHBS supplied me with the White Labs: Pilsner Lager Yeast WLP800 (liquid) but the expiration date has passed (Jan-28-12) so they threw in at no cost two extra tubes of the same...

    What went wrong?

Thanks for the help guys! I guess it is the noob factor that made me think something was wrong. The OG fell outside the 'beer start' range on the hydrometer and I automatically thought that was a problem. Also the bad I made on the steeping temperature hitting 80F (correction 180F) before I...

    What went wrong?

I wish I knew my target OG and IBU. I bought this kit from my LHBS and when I asked the same question I got this as a reply. "You would want to just follow the detailed basic extract homebrewing instructions ( which we have on our website in the instructions section...

    South African Castle Lager

Did i post in the wrong section? Where is the best source for these ingredients? Also how long can I store cracked grain? Is it better to crack grain myself? Thanks!

    South African Castle Lager
