$500 to spend on upgrading. What should I do?

When I first got into making starters I was brewing 5 gallon batches. I bought a 5L flask and loved it. Then, when I went to 10G batches I had what I needed. I am now purchasing and upgrading equipment for a 15 G brewery and will not have to purchase another flask. Don't buy things...

Boilr off rates with a 25 Gallon Mega Pot in Beersmith

I will be introducing my new boil kettle to the flame tomorrow. I know there are a lot of variables in determining boil off rates. But I would like to start the process of configuring the rate from some bases of knowledge. I was wondering if anybody uses a 25 Gallon Mega Pot as a brew kettle...

    Super Simple 15G Plastic Conical

Thanks for the suggestion. My parts will show up today or Monday I think. I am in no hurry and could probably swap them and reorder the 2". What you say makes sense. I appreciate your idea. Two questions please. 1) You mention the volume of the 2.0" sight glass is about 14oz. What...

My Stirplate does not work properly

I have a, "cow magnet". Once my wort is cooled and ready for the stir plate I pitch the yest. I then tip the flask so the stir bar that has been in the flask for before the boil drops. At that point I use my external cow magnet to grab that stir bar and I can now see clearly see it. I then...

new brew station up and running

Well done. Just make sure the ceiling in that garage is fireproof. (When I set up my multi tier system in the garage a number of years ago, I had never really looked up. When I did I found old 1970'ish styrofoam. Oh boy, I one lucky dude I did not have a fire.

Two weeks in, at what point do I repitch?

Also, if you are fermenting in buckets, many users report little sign of fermentation through the stopper. Rather, the CO 2 leaves via the bucket rim. You may want to research this more. I have no experience with buckets.

Two weeks in, at what point do I repitch?

I brew in westcentral WI. In the summer I ferment in a dedicated frig at around 62F for mid level beer pitching Safale 05 or Nottingham. During the winter I pitch the same yeast to a wort that will maybe get as high as 60F as it sits in my garage. I make good beer but find I must be...

    Cleaning Ball Valve

I six years as a brewer I have never paid particular attention to my hot side ball valves. That said, on the post brew day cold side, I have been known to run sanitation products through the valves fully open, a bit less open, somewhat open then closed. I know how the valve operates...

$500 to spend on upgrading. What should I do?

Begin saving money to reinvest in your brewery. TrocChris has a great idea. If I might refine it a bit....Head down to the DIY forum and make a stir plate yourself. Need a flask to enhance your yeast? Consider where you want to go as a brewer and do not purchase too small so you end up...

My Brew Shed in the works, guidance needed.

Looks good Brian. A word of caution....many brewers are concerned with crushing malt in the area they also ferment. My plan is to separate the two processes. Dunno just a thought others may comment upon.

My Brew Shed in the works, guidance needed.

Cyber...I look out my window and it is snowing. I expect 4"s overnight. Ran into St. Paul to pick up supplies at Northern Brewery today. Rushed back home because between the town rd. and my home is a trout stream. My bridge crossing that stream is real, real close to flooding. I made it...

My Brew Shed in the works, guidance needed.

So take a deep breath, slow down and enjoy your hobby. I assume you are making the beer right now you enjoy. Keep making it. Allow the hobby to take you where it will. Planning is huge here. IE, will you insulate the floor of your brew shed for winter? In Wisconsin that is my first...

Have you ever regretted an upgrade to a bigger pot?

I like this approach and am now in the process of maybe my, oh, fourth upgrade. Consider your enjoyment of the total hobby. Not just the brew day, but the whole process. Is gathering the necessary equipment part of your hobby? Consider stopping in at the DIY forum and you may find a...

    Super Simple 15G Plastic Conical

After 717 posts things do get a bit confusing. And that is why I sought clarification. In post 429 on page 43 whis121surfing posted a list of items needed. That post was copied into post #1 of this thread. I basically used the same list but I did not include the pricing data as I did not...
