Stir plate, build, buy, or not necessary

Thanks!! I added the kit to my cart.

    Ordered ingredients today

Interesting. Reasoning? I have less than 20 brews under my belt. And I have taken a long break from brewing. The end goal is to learn how to formulate my own recipes from scratch. This would be my first attempt at altering a known recipe. I don't want to change too much. Already concerned, for...

    Ordered ingredients today

I was going to keep everything else the same in this recipe. Chose the Voss yeast as you can ferment at higher temperatures. Should I only add 1 pound of biscuit malt and go with 6 pounds of 2 row? I would expect this beer to be very different. Not sure what to expect.

    Ordered ingredients today

Brew store had my order ready for pickup today. Grabbed it this afternoon. Assembled my grain mill. Ground up 1 pound of Carapils. Still need to grind the rest of the grains for the Centennial Blonde. Hopefully tomorrow or Wednesday, I will be brewing.

Stir plate, build, buy, or not necessary

Reading through the dry yeast FAQ, it says 10ml per water per gram of yeast. I think this is similar to what I used to do. 110 ml is 3.72 Oz. If I started after the boil, I added yeast to my warm water. If I started a day or 2 before brewing, I added a tablespoon of sugar to the water before...

Not new but been gone a long while

I got everything for the Centennial Blonde. My LHBS you have to order online and then pickup once filled. I placed my order Saturday and picked up this afternoon.

Stir plate, build, buy, or not necessary

I didn't know SNS was a thing. I guess that's what I was doing. I'm starting back off with dry yeast. Bought a 1000 ml flask. Other flask was 1500 ml but never really needed it. Thought about just using a quart jar.

Stir plate, build, buy, or not necessary

Looking through posts, I don't really see many using stir plates. Years ago, they were everywhere. I never had one but I also don't brew big beers. Now that I have the space, I might. I did order a large flask. I used to have one but not sure where it ended up. Also got a small stir bar. I...

    Milling/grinding questions

Pictures? I actually have a few empty coffee cans in the garage.

    Ordered ingredients today

I ordered enough to brew 2 batches of BMs Centennial Blonde. First batch will be original. 2nd batch I am swapping 2 pounds of biscuit malt for 2 pounds of 2 row and I will be using a Kyviek Voss yeast. I have never used biscuit malt or the Voss yeast. I have also not made the Centennial...

    Milling/grinding questions

This is the mill I picked up for $40 on Amazon. I have not opened it yet. I may be sending it back as I found a Corona style mill with a bunch of other gear for $50 locally. Have not yet decided if I want to store all the other gear.

    Dehydrated fruit/ oranges

I recently started dehydrating fruits and vegetables. I have a couple quarts of dehydrated oranges and pineapple. Regular apples and frozen banana didn't work well for me. Reading through some posts about fruit additions, I shouldn't add before fermentation is complete. Make a tincture or...

    Milling/grinding questions

I know BIAB can use a finer crush than traditional all grain. Pros and cons on running grains through the blender after having the brewhouse mill them or even milling at home? I just got a tall hand powered mill. Same question for adjuncts like rice, corn, oats etc.

Equipment list, anything i am missing?

Lol. I don't think I am ready for that. I'm going to stick with buckets for now.

Equipment list, anything i am missing?

I will be. I still have my c02 tank and dual gauge setup. I no longer have any kegs. Probably going to need to buy a new co2 tank as it's likely out of date by now.

Equipment list, anything i am missing?

I bought a used set of equipment yesterday that came with a fermentation bucket, bottling bucket, 4 cases of bottles, wort chiller, hydrometer, thermometer, test jar, 5 gallon glass carboy, plus I still have 3 glass carboys from when I used to brew beer, airlocks, hand capper, caps, bung for the...

    Rice questions

Thank you for all the responses. I may experiment using rice. But I definitely want to try some traditional recipes first and get my process back down.

    Rice questions

I have not brewed in about 8 years. I have also never used rice. Do you use rice whole or do you grind it? If ground, to flour or just crushed? Would using jasmine or basmatti rice cause off flavors? Both are very aromatic when cooking. Not sure I will ever use rice but thought I would ask anyway.

Equipment list, anything i am missing?

My brew kettle is 5 or 6 gallons. I forget which. Bought it in 2014. Actually I have 2 but can't remove the spigot on the 2nd. It leaks around the outside after being dropped. I will get it removed and replaced soon. I have a 3 gallon pot I use for extra water. When I was making beer, years...

Not new but been gone a long while

I'm leaning towards BMs Centennial Blonde. It's easy and it's really good. If you have a different recipe to offer, I would look into it.
