What came in the mail for you today?

A pair of used pin lock kegs. All because the wife is interested in brewing for an upcoming competition and I wasn't sure we'd have enough. They even threw a copy of the July/August 2013 Zymurgy in with the kegs as well. 🤣

    Shoutout to everyone’s favorite LHBS

Shoutout to Homebrew Headquarters in Richardson, Texas. Kelly and the guys have been there for something like 20 years and have a wealth of knowledge and experience to offer. They're open seven days a week so they're there in pinch when you need that last "thing" you forgot on brew day...

US-05 fermentation in mid to high 70s? (Or other yeast suggestions)

Pre-temp control, I brewed with US-05 almost exclusively. Since I began using Lutra though, I've all but stopped using US-05. They say Lutra ferments out cleanly at temps up to the 90's but I've never bothered to find out. I use Lutra at whatever temperature the guest bathroom is and it...

Source for a *static* Pressure Relief Valve for a pin lock 5gal?

Do ball lock lids fit pin lock kegs? I know the lid gaskets are interchangable but I've never tried to swap lids around.

submerging corny kegs in heated water bath for kveik fermentation?

I would, yes. Zymurgy had a good article about pitching Lutra to make a psuedo lager last month. The consensus was that a large starter of Lutra made a better beer than an underpitched beer.

submerging corny kegs in heated water bath for kveik fermentation?

It has been my experience with both Voss and Lutra that both will ferment just fine in the 60's. However, they behave much more like a traditional yeast and do not create the ester profile that kveik yeasts are generally known for. At lower temps they simply take longer to finish out. So if...

    Ale Of Asgard

The smoke would give it a touch Norse authenticity since they used to cure their malts with wood heat. You could also potentially ferment this with kveik as well.

submerging corny kegs in heated water bath for kveik fermentation?

Bring it upstairs and keep it in a closet. I use a 30w heating element in my ferm chamber and it works well enough. If I did not have that, I would use the heat wrap. Whatever you do, make sure its controllable so you don't cook your beer.

    Ale Of Asgard

Man....looks complicated. Should be a big beer though.

Are you participating in the AHA Big Brew day on May 1st? If so which brew are you making?

My brew club is having a brew day in the parking lot behind a brewery down in Dallas. I'm going to brew a British Golden Ale roughly based on the recipe from The Homebrew Challange and UK hops I have in the freezer.

    What's in your fermenter(s)?

Brewing another Aussie type lager. I might actually lager this one for a while if I can find freezer space.

Omega English Ale I is a beast

I had a package of OYL-006 that got shoved to back of the fridge and mostly forgotten. The bag was as inflated as it could be as well. I'm going to brew an English Golden Ale this Sunday and said what the hell....if it isn't viable, I can buy some English Ale yeast locally. Knowing this was...

Gravity Measurement: Brix vs Specific Gravity

I guess maybe I've seen an uptick in Brix usage recently. There's been some discussion of Brix refractometers as well as the electronic refractometers I've seen read in Brix. At least one of the YouTubers I follow gives readings in Brix as well. So, I guess you guys have answered my query -...
