I just placed my test bottle into the fridge after carbonating for 1 week, the rest of the bottles will carbonate for 1 more week before i put them in the fridge. What's the fastest time that the test bottle needs to sit in the fridge before i can try it? I'm only drinking the test...

    Bottled and another newbie mistake

Just bottled my first 5 gallon batch this morning, the Cooper's Irish Stout. Like a newbie and not knowing better, didn't take the airlock off and i think it might of sucked a little bit of water into the fermenter when bottling the first bottle. Could this contaminate my beer, anything i...

Brew Kettle Ice Bath Cover or not to Cover?

I've noticed on You Tube, some brewers cover their brew kettle once they begin the ice bath, i guess the idea being that as it cools down and becomes more acceptable to It's environment, covering the brew kettle help's reduce the chance of contaminating the wort. Is there any downside to...

to rinse or not to rinse?

I use One Step no rinse, in the past with my Mr Beer brews, I've always rinsed everything with hot tap water after One Step. Not had any problems that i know of.

First brew with my new kit!

Thanks for all the replies, i definitely want to get a glass carboy, then use the bottling bucket I'm fermenting in now for bottling. I was on a budget, so i thought, how can i get into 5 gallon brewing while keeping cost down. What i did with the spigot, was dunk it in a pan of one step and...

First brew with my new kit!

I recently upgraded from my Mr. Beer kit to a 5 gallon bucket with spigot as my primary fermenter, I'm going to use a carboy down the road, but this setup will have to do for now. For my first brew, Cooper's Irish Stout, i was going to keep it simple and not use DME, just white sugar. But i...

    Spigot?

Thanks for the replys. For my first brew which is a Coopers Irish Stout, I'll have to use the bucket with spigot. But I'm sold on the 6 gallon better bottle, i didn't realize they were that cheap, non breakable and from everything I've read, food grade safe. I'll be getting a better bottle...

    Spigot?

So i should remove the spigot after each brew, i was planning on doing this as part of my sanitation process, i would soak the spigot with gasket in one step no rinse prior to putting it back on the bucket and test it for leaks with some hot water prior to sanitation of the bucket. Do you...

    Spigot?

Just looked at my spigot from High Gravity Brewing, it only has 1 o ring. Should there be another o ring or do some only come with one?.

    Spigot?

Thanks. Well i might have to put my brewing on hold due to the air conditioning breaking, temps in the house are getting up to 77 in the house. I dont know if that will ruin my first brew, a Coopers Irish Stout. I want to get this out of the way because my next brew will be a German wheat...

    Coopers Wheat Beer Kit

For my first brew, I'm going to keep it simple. I've been told that i need to add 2.2 lbs of DME to this kit, my question is, can i add more then that, say 3.0 lbs and would that improve the taste?

    Brew Kettle?

I'm looking into getting a brew kettle since I'm upgrading from a Mr Beer kit, should i get a brew kettle with built in ball valve and thermometer?. Seems like it would make brewing easy and should 8 gallons be enough or should i go with a 10 gallon?
