Questions on a 200L eHerms System Heating Elements & Control Panel

I plan to have a 200L system so the vessels will be 200L but that does open up another question. Roughly what pre boil volume can I expect with a 200L system? How much headspace should I leave and what volume could I expect going into the ferment after the boil?

Big Efficiency Drop When Doing A Step Mash

Oh I see what you mean sorry. So I am not adding more water to the mash than would be needed. My brewing software indicates a required mash water volume of 15.36L ... so I split the 15.36 into two batches of water, one batch for the acid rest, and the other batch for the boiling water I need to...

Big Efficiency Drop When Doing A Step Mash

I batch sparge Sorry I'm not quite sure what you mean. If you're referring to pre boil volumes I still hit those numbers fine. I also thought about this but I would need to decoct 8L of the mash in order to get to the correct mash temp. Wouldn't this scorch the grain and render it useless?

Big Efficiency Drop When Doing A Step Mash

I've been using 55% wheat malt. No I've had 80% with and without wheat. To date I've done 5 hefe brews. The first 2 brews I did a step mash and got an efficiency in the 60's. The 3rd brew I got 80% but it had 2 differing factors from the previous two previous brews... 1. I used my own grain...

Big Efficiency Drop When Doing A Step Mash

Hi guys I want to establish whether perhaps a step mash is to blame with this issue I experience. I have brewed a few hefeweizens now. Every time I try to do a mash with a ferulic acid rest, my efficiency would drop drastically, from my usual 80% to 63-65%. When I did the mash without any...

Trouble getting a weiss right please help

I had a glass of the beer again yesterday and I picked up a distinct boozey smell from it, like rubbing alcohol. It actually becomes quite noticeable and has that warming effect on the nostrils. I had the same issue when I tried our local variant of 3068. The beer's ABV is 5.3% so the only...

Trouble getting a weiss right please help

Trouble getting a weiss right please help

Sorry about that and duly noted. A few craft breweries here in South Africa are guilty of calling it a "Weiss" so it's lead to a bad habit on my part... the one brewery here that calls it a weiss has a german as the headbrewer so that's a bit odd. Ive read up a lot on wb-06 not being an...

Trouble getting a weiss right please help

Hi guys I'm having trouble lately with getting my weiss right. The strange thing is the first two batches I ever brewed of weiss came out great but were just a little too dry. I used wb-06 for those. Those batches were 15L batches. The subsequent 2 batches after that, each 25L have not turned...

Is my beer line too short for a weiss?

I see. What if I dialed the pressure down for the dispensing of one or two beers and then dialled it back up to 20 psi again straight away? As a temporary solution while I order in some longer tubing.

Is my beer line too short for a weiss?

Thanks that's what I thought. The store who sold it to me said 2 meters is usually fine but didn't bother to ask me what style of beer I'll be carbonating and I didn't mention it as I wasn't totally clued up at that point . I bought 3 meters just in case and turns out that's not even enough...

Is my beer line too short for a weiss?

Hi guys This is my first time kegging and I have a keg of weiss pressurized at 20 PSI in a keezer at 4.5C I'd like to find out if my beerline is going to be long enough at 3 metres/10 feet. I'm using 3/16" bevlex thickwalled beer line. Am I at risk of heavy foam at this length?
