Wanting to try something new. Kveik anyone?

Hi, I don't think I've ever seen this style in bottles anywhere else, but I haven't really searched it out either. I was in Louisville, KY and had a Norwegian Farmhouse beer using Kveik yeast at Against the Grain a couple weeks ago, but it wasn't as good as the 612Brew version. Just tasted...

Wanting to try something new. Kveik anyone?

Just wanted to give another update. The beer turned out fantastic! Very fruity and at 9%, very drinkable. I brought a couple bottles to a local brewery, he tried it, and wants to make a batch on his system. I plan on helping him brew it on brew day. I'm pretty excited to brew a batch on a...

How do you keep propane tanks warm?

I brewed last week with a high of 4 degrees in the Twin Cities area in Minnesota. I leave my tank outside and brewed outside on my deck. I've never had an issue with a tank freezing up.

Wanting to try something new. Kveik anyone?

Just an update, after 24 hours a nice big Krausen formed so I took my first two yeast croppings off the top. Got a pint jar full of yeast and a smearing on tin foil that is drying in my basement now. The beer is currently fermenting at 76 and rising.

Wanting to try something new. Kveik anyone?

I just finished brewing a batch with hornindal kveik yeast based on a recipe from a local brewpub in town (612Brew). Here is the recipe I used: 16lbs 2 row 2 lbs Rye Malt 1 lbs. Flaked Rye 3 ML hopshot at 60 min 1 oz Styrian Golding at 20 min 1 oz crushed Dried Juniper berries at 2 min. Pitch...

    Favorite "Two Hop" IPA combinations.

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread, but I just brewed a two hop combo that surprised me at how well it turned out. I was looking in my freezer and came across a pound of Bravo and Summit. I did a 50/50 mix and the results are delicious! Taste like eating Orange Marmalade with a hint of lemon...

Tired of Citra, Mosiac, and Galaxy NE IPAS

Cascade and Columbus in the boil and dry hopped with Simcoe. That's my favorite combo for my black IPA.

The obligatory "what did you get for your brewery from Santa this year?" thread

I got a Northern Brewer Anti-Gravity Transfer pump and a sack of Rahr 2-row.

    Barrel Aging Advice

I started something like this in August. I was able to purchase a 10 gallon Whiskey barrel from a distillery in Montana. I brewed an 2 - 5 gallon batches of 11% RIS and have it aging. My plan is to pull 5 gallons off in 5 months and put 5 gallons of fresh beer(post fermentation). I'm hoping...

Adding fireball to an apple cinnamon wheat ale?

It sounds like it would be good. Fireball is already very cinnamon so I wouldn't add any to the beer in addition to the Fireball. I brewed a hard cider and I just add a shot of Fireball to each glass before I pour. That way if I want just cider I can do that by not adding the shot. A shot of...

    Oxygenation and shoulder challenges

Check Brulosphy's website on their aeration experiments. I believe all have shown no significance between aeration and nothing. The only time I use my oxygen tank now is on big beers. I have not noticed any difference from when I used to oxygenate every beer. I do pour vigorously through a...

Fear the Walking Dead - Jimbo's Beerbos

I just watched the episode too and I'm going to make his recipe, but I think I will wait for the end of the season to see if the secret ingredient comes out :)

    10gal tall boy boil-off rate?

I have a 10 gallon tall boy and I start with 7 gallons and end with about 5.5 gallons at the end of an hour boil. So I'm at about 1.5 gallons per hour.

    Becoming a professional, thoughts/perspective?

In my opinion having 6 taps should be a minimum. 1. IPA 2. Specialty IPA (IIPA, Hazy, Black, Red, Milkshake.......) 3. Dark (Porter/Stout) 4. Light option(Helles/cream ale/blonde....) 5. Something interesting/seasonal 6. Carbonated water with soda syrup options for the kids/designated drivers...

    Parents who brew...

Congrats on the new addition! I have three kids 6 and under and I average 12-13 brews a year, along with 5-7 ciders and wines. For me, brewing is a lot of small activities followed by a lot of waiting. I started BIAB after having kids so that I can do it after I had kids to make it easier. I...

    Option with bland blonde ale.

Thank you everyone! I ended up doing a hop tea with 12 ounces of water and a half ounce of hops at starting at 160 degrees and keeping it in there for 20 minutes. I dumped it in the keg and it did add some hop character but not what I was looking for. I then dry hopped in the keg with another...

What the Helles am I thinking?

I second 34/70. I've brewed lagers in two weeks with this yeast. Very clean and clisp. I'd ferment it at 60 for three days then up it to 65 to finish it out. Cold crash it for 2 days, gelatin fine it in the keg and carb it up. Should be good by the 7th! Good luck!

    Option with bland blonde ale.

Hi, I brewed and kegged a blonde ale for an event on Friday that is bland. It's sitting in my Kegerator now and has been there about a week fully carbed. I'm wondering if I can get some hop aroma/flavor before Friday. Has anybody had any success with hop teas added directly to the keg? if...

Good basic IPA Grain bill needed

100% Golden Promise is my favorite IPA Grain Bill. Just enough malt sweetness to support the hops.

    Hops of America Brown Ale

Janet's Brown uses Northern Brewer, Cascade and Centennial. It's a great example of an American Brown. If I were to create my own recipe these are the hops that I would use.
