Help with Saison recipe using 3711 yeast

Hi guys, I would like to brew an all grain Saison recipe and would like your input. I am not familiar with this style and unfortunately am not able to get my hands on any commercial examples. I have a starter of 3711 that I made 3 days ago. After some research I'm thinking of trying something...

    Is thebrewingnetwork.com offline?

Hey guys, I was listening to The Jamil show earlier this morning but when I try to access thebrewingnetwork.com now I can't get in. Anyone else with this issue?

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

I'm looking to get into 1 gallon batches and was wondering if you guys are doing no sparge biab or are fly sparging or perhaps some other technique. Is there a database somewhere of recipes designed for 1 gallon batches or does software like Beersmith do a decent job of scaling recipes? Do you...

    Suggestions for stalled fermentation WLP380

Hey guys, I'm having my first ever stalled fermentation on a wheat beer with WLP380. It was a small 2 gallon batch with an OG of 1050. I made a 1L starter 3 days before brewing the batch. I pitched at 62f and a vigorous fermentation started a few hours after pitching. After 4-5 days there...

Helles Bock HBT BJCP comp winning Maibock

I think I'm going to try this recipe out today but will use some Wyeast Oktoberfest yeast I have laying around. Am I missing something or is the fermentation simply 14 days at 50F? No ramping up for diacetyl rest? How long should it lager ofr?

Recommend me an IPA or APA recipe

Thanks for the input. I went with the Fresh Squeezed this time. I think I'll try Yoopers house pale ale next. Right now I can't brew anything with Simcoe or Amarillo but that will change soon with the new hop harvest.

Recommend me an IPA or APA recipe

What yeast did you use? I'm in Canada and can't get most of the awesome beer you guys down south can so although I'm looking a clone recipes I have nothing to compare it to.

Recommend me an IPA or APA recipe

Hey guys, I'm looking to brew an IPA or APA all grain batch later today. Is there a recipe you've brewed recently that you'd recommend? I usually make my own recipes but would like to try someone elses tried and true recipe. I came across Deschutes’ Fresh Squeezed IPA Clone on the AHA website...

Easiest Way To Go All Grain

For your mash tun you could use a large nylon bag instead of a false bottom. I started with a bazooka screen but found that a large mesh bag worked better. You will need a larger than 5 gallon kettle. Yes it costs a bit of money but it's like saying, I want to cook a turkey for thanksgiving...

    1 Gallon BIAB brewing questions

That's what I thought but when I moved from 5 gallon all grain batches to 10 gallon but I found that sometimes 60 min mashes weren't long enough to pass a starch conversion test. Next time I'll have some iodine to test for conversion.

Carbon Monoxide Detector may have just saved our lives

I'm confused, you woke up early and turned on the kitchen stove? What for? Were you brewing or cooking or you just turned it on and walked away?

    1 Gallon BIAB brewing questions

I just finished brewing my first 1 gallon BIAB and everything went well. I mashed in 1 gallon of water for 30min at 150f and then put the grain bag into 1 gallon of water at 168f. I put the first gallon of wort on my burner and when it was about to come to a boil I removed the grain bag from...

    One Step Sanitizer (Or Not?)

Diversol (b-brite, sani-brew, the pink stuff) for cleaning and star san for sanitizing. I can't imagine using anything other than star san for sanitizing. It lasts a while, doesn't stain, no rinse, no smell/taste, it's perfect.

    1 Gallon BIAB brewing questions

Hey guys, I'm looking to do some 1 gallon all grain BIAB batches and had a few questions. I usually do 10 gallon all grain and found that when I have 20+LB grain bills sometimes a 60 minute mash isn't sufficient. Based on that I was wondering if a full 60 minute mash is necessary for <3lb of...

    Best Homebrew Books

Mastering Homebrew by Randy Mosher was released February 2015 and is well worth the money. The Complete Joy of Homebrewing 4th edition and Homebrewers Companion 2nd edition by Charlie Papazian are equally as good. After those I would suggest the newest version of How To Brew, Brewing Classic...

    Brewing with or without enhancer

The kit you're brewing sounds exactly like a Coopers extract kit. If you make a full 23 liter batch with the just the extarct can your beer will be around %3 abv. Coopers sells brew enhancer 1 and 2. Brew enhancer 1 is a mix of dextrose and maltodextrin and will kick up the ABV to about %4.2...

Why is my Irish Red Ale from Northern Brewer So sweet?

Looking at the instructions for that kit did you bring your wort to a boil, add 1oz Willamette, boil for 30min, add US Goldings, boil 30 more minutes. Is that what you did? Did it look like your yeast had an active fermentation? Without gravity readings it's tough to say why it tastes sweet...
