I have a last min. opportunity this morning to make the porter, but I wasn't able to make a starter. Can I add the washed yeast without a starter, if so how much will...

What are some things I should expect?

Hey well a couple things. 1. I didn't see your recipe, but I'm almost postive you shouldn't have had your specialty grains anywhere near boiling. When I did extract (is this extract?) I steeped my grains at 150 ish. 2 you won't be able to tell ABV because you didn't take a hydro reading. 3. Your...

Infection Help with a Porter (pellicle?)

So, I bottled it today bottled the bottom 2/3. It tasted ok not sour, not great either. I took extra precautions to sanitize and I'm still unsure about the auto siphon if o can still reuse it I might bleach it, is that a good idea? I'll keep everyone notified if after 3 weeks, to see if its good.

Infection Help with a Porter (pellicle?)

Thanks for all the input, 2 days later the infection doesn't seem to have grown. However, This is my first rodeo, so I have not idea. Here is my plan of action. I would love to let it sit for 12 months, but that's a long time and I am impatient. :) Haven't tasted the beer yet, but tonight I...

Infection Help with a Porter (pellicle?)

Hey everyone I have my first infection. After about 20 brews under my belt this showed up in my newest Porter. I made it and it sat for 4 weeks in the primary and after one week in the secondary this happened almost overnight, it has nothing on top of it up until last check on Thursday. It...

    Hi FG what to do...

I made a robust porter from all grain. My OG was 1.076 and I made a starter with wyeast London Ale. A month later I checked my FG and it was 1.02. Is that still too high? It tasted decent, hard to tell. The FG is stable. PS my starter didn't really take off and I might've underpitched. Do I...

Efficiency woes, can't figure it out... feedback?

Sorry to hear about your brewing woes. When I first went to ag that was me too. I couldn't get a eff above 60%. Two things I did that get me now in the 75% range. 1 Is crush, I know its a dead horse but my crush has to be very fine. Also, I have since realized my digital thermometer is ten...

    Brown ale bottling

I brewed a brown ale about 4 weeks ago. 3 weeks ago I racked it to a secondary to free up a primary. I am wondering if there is enough free yeast to bottle, or if I need to add a least pack? And if so what kind. I used English ale yeast. Thanks in advance.

    Bottle Aging Question

Hey, I have beer that is 3 weeks old in the bottles and I want to bottle age, do I throw them into the fridge and keep them there for a while 6+weeks), or in my closet, where they are now? I tried to find the answer on here, I know its probably somewhere, but I couldn't find it.

First AG is brewing, Already bumps in the road. need advice

Well, it depends how much and how hard you boil. If you havent added hops you can still boil it off. But with a pre boil 1.047 you might not have a strong beer but should be drinkable. How big is your fermenter? Just ride it out. Should be ok.

First AG is brewing, Already bumps in the road. need advice

What is your gravity now? Trust me gravity is mote important than volume. What was your Target preboil and post boil gravity? Also have you added hops?

    Need help with hydrometer

Well either way its fermentating and well have to see if it tastes good. I'll try that place. Maybe it was the crush. I'll also buy a few hydrometers to double check. And use the ice bath. That's a great idea. Thanks. I'll let you all know how it goes.
