    OR/WA Group Brew v3.0

That was wacky....wow....That Thursday night would actually work fine for me too. And I don't mean to rush anyone either. I just need to do some rearranging in the basement and it's hard to move a full barrel without a lift! :) We're having some water issues down there and need to have some work...

    OR/WA Group Brew v3.0

Alright guys. Let's nail down a date to empty the barrel. Oct. is a busy month for me and I'm pretty much limited to October 23rd at this point. Does that work for everyone?

Can I really finish primary in 3 days? Is that possible?

The "active" or visual aspect of fermentation can very easily be done in 3 - 4 days. Especially at those higher temps. But as Walker says, those yeast still have a job to do.

    Homebrewing Service?

Revvy...I've always wondered why you post the bartering law as it only applies to retailers that have already purchased from a distributor. It has no connection to what anyone here is asking about. Trades, samples, etc are a fact of life within the alcohol business. Of course that is producer to...

Naturally Carbing Kegs - Where does the yeast go?

Even with force carbing you're going to have yeast. Unless you filter.

pre-soaking hops to deter wort absorption

During the hop crisis of '08 many folks were using their used dry hops for their bittering additions to save a few bucks. What you lose when dry hopping/soaking is the aromas. Boiling is needed to extract the bitterness. So presoaking your bittering additions shouldn't be an issue. I just don't...

    55 Gallon Stainless Steel Drumb

Are we really talking STAINLESS STEEL here? New these guys go for $800+. Reconditioned at $500. Totally sure it's SS and not just your norm steel drum? There's one right now on eBay for $450.

    Black IPA - critique

Drink...I believe the full name of that style as used by the GABF is American Style India Black Ale.

    Question about sanke keg fermenting

I just "slip" on the CO2 hose over the smaller of the two "arms" of the carboy cap. Works fine. I say "slip" because it sometimes takes a little convincing.

How long have i been doing it wrong for?

I'd put money on that you have indeed had them, but just didn't know it. It's "almost" unavoidable to get 1 or 2 small ones. Mine seem to hide towards the bottom, so when I stir I also pull up with my paddle.

    Black IPA - critique

Another vote for adjusting your hop schedule. Drop the 45/30 but I wouldn't adjust the 60. More late hop additions and totally up your dry hop to a minimum of 2 oz. I've been playing with my CDA and I'm creeping up towards 4ozs of dry hop.

    grape beer?

I work for a Riesling producer so it was almost a given that I would at some point try to do a Riesling Ale. I ended up with an American Wheat based brew that I add Riesling juice to in secondary. Wasn't my personal favorite, but the winemaker loved it and even wanted to get a small batch...

Sight Glass in a Brew Keggle?

Another solution to JVD X's issue is to put a heat shield under the sight glass. I use a poor man's version...aluminum foil. Works like a charm. And no, having a sight glass is not more trouble then it's worth. Quite the opposite I'd say.

    Mash Hop FAILURE

I always thought FWH and mash hopping was meant to replace the bittering additions, not the flavor/aroma additions.
