35 Gallon Fermenter on Seattle Craiglist

Out of curiosity I asked for a shipping quote from CA to Portland. About $165 so it's coming in about $100 less than the Craigslist offer. With the extra mileage to Seattle and the ability to touch/smell/see the local offer it may not be a bad deal.

35 Gallon Fermenter on Seattle Craiglist

Here's one going on right now: http://cgi.ebay.com/35-GALLON-STAINLESS-STEEL-TANK-/130402596007?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e5c99b4a7 Says to email for freight. The ship from CA or PA.

Show us and rate your wort chiller - plate style

You preferred no Therms, but that's what I use. Cooled down from boiling to 60º-65º in about 10 mins depending on ground water temp. I recirculate for a little while until I hit that temp then go to the carboy. Afterwords I flush backwards with boiling water/cleaner (PBW, etc) then rinse with...

    Rye Cascadian Dark

I'd debate the Roasted Barley comment. I use RB in my CDA and think it goes really well. Not a lot mind you, and I put it in the mash for the last 15mins, but I like the contrast. To me that's what CDA's are all about. It's more than just a color.

    on Cascadian Dark Ale

There you go again voodoo...Calling everybody names...And you do realize Cascadia is comprised of BC, WA, OR, and NorCal? Why you always hatin' on Oregonians? The problem with Cat 23 is it's a catch all. You have everything from pales, to stouts, lagers to ales, sours, etc. I just think it's a...

Used corny kegs black rubber what a mess...

Goo Gone works pretty well to get the stickers off. Or just cover them up with new stickers.

    on Cascadian Dark Ale

I think there should be a new style guideline for the variations of IPA's. A more broad one though. A specialty IPA (14-D) to clean up some of the mess in Cat. 23. I do believe in the CDA name and the movement, but not sure it demands it's own category. BA has settled on American Style India...

    My Ginger Ale - HOTTT!

A little trick to peeling ginger...run some cold water over it while using a spoon to scrape away the skin. Should come off pretty easily. And I think I'd call this a Ginger Beer, not a Ginger Ale.

    Celery wine

A hydrometer can be useful for soda making too, so you may want to think about picking one up one day. Most commercial "big brands" are shooting for an OG of 1.040 - 1.048. It's a good tool to know how much sugar to use.

Spent Grain? Make Your Best Friend Cookies!

Same here. I typically don't want to bake the same day I brew (after spending 6hrs brewing/cleaning last thing I want to do is spend another 4 hours making several batches of dog treats). I dry mine out a little bit in the oven before storing. Then I separate into gallon bags. 1 bag goes in the...

    Republic of Cascadia

I know there are some that are using Sinimar, and I would agree with you that those that do aren't doing it right and it's just coloring. But I think those that aren't and are getting a good balance between roast and hops are doing a damn good job. But if you take the hops away I wouldn't call...

    Republic of Cascadia

No need for the hostility. Besides, I'm pretty sure this isn't a thread on the Black IPA vs CDA...PNW vs. VT/TX debate. Besides, most intelligent folks know what Greg did was more of a hoppy Porter/Stout. CDA is not a hoppy Porter/Stout. Carry on....

Dry Hopping Loose, cheese cloth filter?

I've never used any sort of filter when transferring beer from dry hop to it's next destination and never have had an issue. I don't even have a cover on the tip of my racking cane. It should be a non issue. What beerthirty posted a picture of is used to aerate wort, so I'm not sure why he...

cannot find dextrose for Apfelwine recipe

I'm with AZ on this one...You may need to find a new LHBS. Dextrose is a very widely used ingredient. It's like not carrying yeast or hops. ;)

    Diatomaceous Earth

Check local feed stores. We use DE with the chickens in their coop and dust baths.

    Yeast from my favorite Brewery

When getting yeast from a brewery I've never needed to use a starter. Plenty of little workers in there to do the job.

    what is keg jumping?

FreeFall...yes, you can use the same concept to transfer between any sized kegs.

    what is keg jumping?

Haven't seen the thread, but my guess is it's basically transferring from one keg to another. Often times done to filter the beer. All done in a closed system to limit contact to oxygen. Beverage out on one keg to Beverage out on the other.

Is it safe to put the Therminator in the oven?

I've done it once with no issue...But I believe Blichmann suggests NOT doing it.
